Losing 12 of 13 games to Sugiyama, dear Lord what an awful performance. Nothing else to say.

bad bad bad. It started so well, and then it all fell apart. In the second set: 6 winners (incl one ace) and 16 UEs (incl 1 DF).

Her confidence seems bad. I hope she gets it together in time for the Olympics.

Ai Sugiyama (JPN) def Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) 6-3 6-1
I really feel pitty for her.. whatever was the reason for this huge breakdown in the first set, I hope she can "avoid" it in Beijing..

and i wonder what Ai and Danka talked about at the net in the end..

after winning the first 3 games it was just bad to horrible to just terrible. No confidence, no belief just hitting the ball anywhere. Worst I seen her play for a LONG while

well she has a week almost to do some serious soul-searching. Too bad she couldn't take advantage of the relatively weak draw at Stanford. Next week in LA will be a lot tougher.

That's one of the things that does annoy me with her, fair enough she has just come back from an injury. But she RARELY takes advantage of a good draw and they don't come to often for her. Especially when you see games like today where there was just nothing from her. I hope she gets her fitness back but I don't expect much from her for the rest of the year. Hope she enjoys the olympics and comes back ready for next year.

oh dear, i was not so surprised she lost but the way she played it was quite disappointing....so does this mean she will go down in the rankings next week?

only if Schnyder does really well and reaches the final. Then Daniela will go down to 13

Oh Danka somehow i had a bad feeling but i hoped you will prove me wrong...

Well take a break and try to find your love and passion again for L.A.

Go Aleks take the title now :P :P

Edit: I doubt Danka will find her magic form from Bali 07 until AO 08 again... The real Danka's back (Wimbly 2003-US 2006)

From tennisreporters.net,

"Hantuchova is nowhere close to her level in just her second tournament back post a bad foot injury. Its frustrating,” said Hantuchova, who was out for two and a half months with the injury. "It wasn't a very good performance. I'm at about 70 percent. It's the confidence that's missing and putting things together in match. Everything came so easy last year and now it seems like I have to work hard for every point."
Its incredible how far players can slip when most of them have been striking the ball since elementary school. A couple months off and it’s as if they are learning the difference between an eastern and western grip.
“It’s the same after end of season that you take two week off and you start playing from zero,” she said. “After some many years it should be so easy, but I guess that the beauty of the sport because you can never relax.”
