To be honest I'd take that draw anyday. Sanchez is an upcoming american but her last match she got double bagelled by Petkovic in the first round of qualifying in Cincinnati.

Stosur just split up from her coach last week and although won Carlsbad she faces a qualifier so anything can happen.

I think let's face it, we'll be delighted with one win seeing as Daniela hasn't won a Grand Slam match since the Australian Open 2012.

Sanchez is a pretty good opener.

Her best win this year was beating Jana Cepelova at Birmingham and she also won a set against Vekic there. She won a set against Urzsula Radwanska at Monterey and took a set against Morita in Toronto qualifying but her record since Birmingham hasn't been very good and, as eddy said, Petkovic double bagelled her in Cincinnati. At the same time, Sanchez has to be respected as an opponent but you really have to favour Daniela.

Stosur's the likely second round opponent and Daniela doesn't have a good record against her but the matches have generally been close and competitive so we'll see what happens. Daniela has to win her first match before she can focus on Stosur.

Why do they put the draw out for US Open so soon? Worrying for 4-5 days to see if Daniela can break this 1st round majors bugaboo is not my idea of a good time. :x All the good luck to you, Dani!

Will she play on Monday or Tuesday?

I'm not sure what day Daniela starts eddy, but I hope that she gets an early start on a decent court because most of the time in slams Daniela's been last on and she's had to wait around all day. It always seems that the match before Daniela's is a mens match when somebody is two sets up and Daniela is getting ready to play but the other guy launches a comeback it it goes to five sets so she has to wait around and her preparations aren't ideal. It's the same for the other player but a better schedule would help Daniela.

I wish Dani could open with Paszek, at least the one I saw in Carlsbad! :D Amazing how I saw her play so well and get her first ever double bagel and she hasn't won a singles match since. I will pray and hope that changes against Sanchez.

Come on, eddy. What lyric is repeated a lot in Suite Judy Blue Eyes? "What have they got to lose?" ;)

I just would have liked them to have gotten an easier first rounder. A lot rests on this tournament if Daniela and hingis will continue.

I feel the same way. And I'm not going to say they haven't put forth their best even with all the stuff about having a good time and laughing and giggling. But this has to absolutely get their competitive juices flowing, plus they've seen our Italian buddies once and weren't overmatched. What I fear is that they will play them very tough, but it being a major there's none of those deciding points or 10 pt. tiebreakers, and that will hurt an upset bid. They may get an edge in that the U$ Open (emphasis on $) may well see this as a cash grab and make it an evening match at Arthur Ashe Stadium, and I think the crowd would get behind them. There is nothing like a New York City crowd when they get going. That would help a lot. I think all of us Daniela Maniacs will be chowing down the Tums and chewing our fingernails off these next 2 days. Another 1st round exit in singles and a partnership breaking loss in doubles would be crushing for all of us. And when we're all pretty much convinced that's what will happen, so often that's when Daniela reminds us why we love her! :) Cross the fingers, everyone!

Court 8, 3rd match following a men's and a women's match. Hardly ideal, but Dani's last 2 singles losses were in the first match up, and the Birmingham title could not have had more lengthy delays. All fingers crossed!
