Daniela Hantuchova battles into Aegon Classic semi-finals

Daniela Hantuchova won a hard fought 6-7(8), 6-4, 7-6(3) encounter against Francesca Schiavone that lasted three hours and 22 minutes in the quarter-finals of the Aegon Classic on Friday.

In a fiercely competitive match on the Ann Jones Centre Court, 2011 Aegon Classic runner-up Hantuchova came back from a set down to overcome the former French Open Champion.

“I never gave up and I keep fighting for every point," said Hantuchova after the match. "On grass everything can change so quickly. Francesca is such a great competitor as well, so I think we were both enjoying the battle and we have so much respect for each other so it’s always nice to play this kind of match”

Hantuchova, who received treatment during the match for a leg strain, was trailing 3-0 in the final match tie-break before winning seven consecutive points to edge the win.

Hantuchova will play the winner of American qualifier Alison Riske or Germany’s Sabine Lisicki in the semi-finals on Saturday.

To Be Continued - Alison Riske vs Sabine Lisicki
In the final match of the day, bad light suspended play between American qualifier Alison Riske and Sabine Lisicki of Germany at 7-6(2), 2-6, 2-2.
Riske and Lisicki will complete their quarter-final at 11.30am on Court 1. The winner will play again, against Hantuchova, in the second scheduled match on the Ann Jones Centre Court.
+ short highlights

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

We got the Rome revenge!!!

Watched the highlights, the shot to go 5-3 up in the 3rd set tiebreak was UNBELIEVABLE!

Just pray that she is ok to play tomo. Lisicki or Riske doesn't deserve a bye to the final.

Daniela surely must withdraw next week from Den Bosch!

Daniela surely must withdraw next week from Den Bosch!

None of us know how much pain Dani endures in any match she plays. If we add up her comment she made about how hit harder and played stronger after the injury timeout, her comment about how the tennis she played in the 7 pt. tiebreak run was her best in a long time, how she made brilliant shots 3 hrs. and 20 min. into this match and how she turned the thing around after the timeout (and I hope to heck I'm not jinxing her now), I can't see her not playing tomorrow. Dani also has the edge of Lisicki and Riske having to finish their match (how much I'd love to see them have an Isner/Mahut tiebreak!) and not have much rest time before facing her. She'll be there.
As for next week, I agree, and like I said before, Daniela should go apologize in advance to Hsieh and 86 the doubles as well. But with her suddenly getting hot like this, I have to say it's tempting to me that she would play in Den Bosch (I imagine Helio would go along with that :!: ), get at least one win and not give back any of this week's gains. It only figures that next week would be the first where there's points to be defended in months. But it's clear that Wimbledon is the overriding concern, and if she's rested and OK for that, and holds this week's form, it could be a ranking rising bonanza!
I cannot believe that I have researched the hour-by-hour Birmingham weather forecast for 5 straight days!! I'm a Daniela Maniac alright! :)
Just saw the tiebreak. She was brilliant! And the only thing better than that shot at 4-3 was her reaction!

Let's Go, Daniela!

WHAT A VICTORY :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I just arrived home, and saw all your comments on the game and the highlights at the AEGON website, that point in the tie-break, I had to show it to everyone that lives with me (they really don't understand tennis, but they're from Belgium and Schiavone won against Flipkens in RG, so they were all hoping for Daniela to win).
I think that she can carry this momentum to Den Bosch. Ranking wise, it's safer to play there, because she we'll be unsedeed at Wimbledon and we all know that draws, sometimes, are not really kind to her, and i'm seeing her play with a powerful seed in the 1st round (hope i'm wrong). In doubles, I completly agree that she should say bye-bye to the tournament.

It's guaranteed that she'll go up to #58 in the next rankings, with a possible climb to #53 reaching the final, and (this would be a dream to me) #47/48 if she finally wins a title in grass :)

I hate Lisicki, so I would prefer to get rid of her already, and have Daniela play with Riske, but I have faith in our girl, and I bet she'll do well tomorrow, if her injury doesn't bother her again.

Well, as much as I'd LOVE to see Daniela live finally, if her injury is a concern, I suggest she takes a break and does not play Den Bosch. Whenever she has caught fire in the last few years, it all ends in injury and back to square one. I really don't want that to happen again.

But then again, I'm sure it's difficult to step back if she is feeling her form is getting there.

Riske beat Lisicki. That certainly is a better match up for Daniela, but Daniela must be careful and make sure she plays well from the start. Another final here would be so special.

Glad Lisicki is out. But Riske morphs into Graf or Chrissie whenever she plays here. However, Daniela stopped one of her runs 2 years ago here rather emphatically (6-2, 6-4). And, about 1/2 hour ago, she sent a FB post praising Schaivone and saying that no one deserved to lose that match, her usual classiness. So I take it she's getting ready to go. And we are more than ready to root her on!

Let's Go, Daniela!

I'm really worried about her foot...Alison is kinda a big hitter and i dont know if Dani can maintain her level from yesterday..hoping Dani will be lucky and Alison will be tired since she just finished her match against Sabine.

This weather is really effing annoying, every year it sucks in Birmingham.

I noticed Daniela is no.1 seeds in doubles with Hlavackova, they have a bye in the 1st round, is she seriously going to play next week? Crazy IMO but I guess better to get more points before Wimbledon in case she gets a horrid draw at SW19...

so, here they come again to try to play the match until the end.
Daniela was getting used to the flat game of Riske, so, I hope that during the break her coach told her how to control Riske's game.
A break now, would be great!

Of course Riske is playing ridiculously amazing after the rain break, literally hasn't missed a ball.

5-7 FFS why do all these unknown players play amazing against Daniela time after time..?

after rain delay:

5-5, *5-6,
5-7* - 15-0, 30-0, 40-0, 40-15, GAME, 1st SET Riske

Just catch the last game of Riske, good serves by Riske and wide returns from Daniela. The Rain break was, apparently, better to Riske, who came with everything in the rest of the set, according to the TV commenters.
Let's hope a game like the previous, where she loses the 1st set and then wakes up.

2nd set - Daniela to serve

*1-0 - 15-0, 30-0, 40-0, Game Daniela! very easy game for Daniela, with 4 good 1st serves.
1-1* - 15-0, 30-0,40-0, 40-15, Game Riske. She continues to play amazingly in her serve. Like this, it will be difficult to Daniela to break :/
*2-1 - 15-0, 30-0 (ace #1), 30-15 (DF #6), 40-15, Game Daniela
3-1* -15-0, 15-15, 15-30, 15-40 2BP, 30-40, DEUCE (with a great serve, Daniela had no opportunity in both points), BP #3, Daniela does the break, NOW HOLD PLEASE!
*4-1 - Stream stopped, but game to Dani.
5-1* - 0-15, 15-15, 15-30, 15-40 2BP, 30-40 (ace #3), Game Daniela! She's playing pretty well at the moment. She stopped playing to Riske's backhand and more to her forehand, and now she's hitting more winners and forcing errors from Riske.
*6-1 - 15-0, 15-15 (Daniela got unfocused by what she thought was an ace, and the umpire said out), 30-15, 40-15 2SP, GAME, 2nd Set - DANIELA HANTUCHOVA 6-1! She won 100% of her 1st serves and of Riske's 2nd serve.

Daniela called her coach and Riske asked a toilet break. Hope that this doesn't break Daniela's momentum.
Riske took too long in the toilet, and Daniela seems pretty annoyed and even the commenters said that Riske's attitude was ridiculous, mainly after a 1.20h of a rain delay.

3rd set:

0-1* - 15-0, 30-0 (ace #4), 30-15, 40-15, Game Riske
*1-1 - 15-0, 30-0, 30-15, 40-15, 40-30, DEUCE (Daniela's momentum is gone, and Riske is back again with powerful strokes), BP#1 (another wide ball from Daniela), DEUCE (big serve), GP (another good serve), GAME Daniela (ace #2).
1-2* - 15-0, 30-0 (ball in the net, drops in Daniela's side), 40-0, Game Riske
*2-2- 15-0, 30-0, 30-15, 40-15, 40-30, Game Daniela with a great serve.
2-3*- 0-15 (DF #4), 15-15, 30-15, 40-15, 40-30, Game Riske (wide ball from Daniela, in a easy ball).
*3-3- 15-0, 15-15, 30-15, 40-15, 40-30 (great backhand from Riske), Game Daniela
4-3*- 0-15, 0-30 (great point from daniela with a volley), 3BP (atrocious volley from Riske), Game Daniela to 0! :D
*5-3 - 15-0, 15-15, 30-15, 40-15, GAME Daniela :D Riske serving to keep in the match
5-4* - 15-0, 15-15, 15-30, 30-30, 40-30, DEUCE, GP, DEUCE, GP, DEUCE #3, GP, Game Riske. CLOSE THIS DANIELA
- 15-0, 30-0, 40-0 3MP, ACE!!!!

GAME, SET, MATCH DANIELA HANTUCHOVA :D :D :D
5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in 2h11

Another final :) Final #15 :D
Win this title for us tomorrow :)

Daniela has woken up 4-1 up now in the 2nd set. Sublime play from Daniela 5-1 and 6-1 just wonderful play from Daniela But i'm still worried about this match, they play very similar games..The weather is the best it's been all day so the court is a bit faster now, so it'll be first strike tennis. Comon Daniela!

Riske has gone off for a "toilet" break, really think they should get rid of this..or have a portocabin just next to the court...
