This tournament is a good chance for Daniela to go on a run a start her climb back up the rankings. There are a lot of good players there but Daniela can beat most of the players in the field. A lot will depend on the draw as in her last three tournaments she had a top 10er as soon as possible so hopefully that won't be the case here. The green clay will be a good transition from the hardcourts to the red clay (and will probably be a fast as Miami) so it should be a good surface for Daniela and she had a great run here in 2010 so a repeat in 2013 would be great. |

Initial reports from twitter is that Daniela has Marina Erakovic in the first round. I don't have any further details about who Daniela would have latter on. Edit: Stosur in round 2. I can't believe how unlucky Daniela has been with her draws recently always getting top 10ers as early as she can in the draw. Daniela should be able to beat Erakovic easily enough although Erakovic beat her in Quebec City in 2011 (although Daniela was hampered by her foot injury) and she won Memphis last month so she's got to be respected. Stosur will be really tough and although she's got a good record against Daniela most of the matches have been close, usually decided by tiebreaks or in three sets so it's not like Stosur thrashed Daniela. That will probably come down to a few points here and there so it'll be crucial that Daniela takes her chances. However, she's got to get past Erakovic first so she has to focus on that. |

Another shit draw. I think she'll struggle against Erakovic to be honest. Stosur's been injured so might be a bit out of form but to get to 3rd round here would be something short of a miracle. |

It's Green Grass (er, clay) and High Tides Forever! Sure, Daniela could lose early here. What I'll say, though, is that in checking the entry list a few days ago, I saw 4 people that I hoped she didn't draw for the 1st or 2nd round. Erakovic and Stosur were not among those 4, so it's all good from my perspective. Of her 8 tourneys played this year (including Fed Cup), Dani is 6-2 in her first match, not bad at all. She's faced Erakovic twice, both 2 years ago, and split. Dani wasn't just troubled by injury in the loss at Quebec City, but also in the win at Wimbledon, which was just days after she pulled her abdominal when she was kicking Kvitova's butt in the Eastbourne semi, and the win was easy (3 & 1). To the best of our knowledge, Daniela is more healthy so far this year than since the morning of that Eastbourne semi. So if she can crush Erakovic once and lose a close one to her while clearly hurting, hmmmm, I say Baby, You'd Better Believe! Happy Easter, everyone! |

It's been several weeks at least that Daniela entered for Charleston. Today, the person who claims to be Dani on FB (and this is not on her official FB page) sent this: "Hello, guys! At the last moment I decided to sign up for the tournament in Charleston." And, as always happens, several people fell for it and sent You Can Do It type messages. What a world, what a world! If my math is correct, should Daniela succeed vs. Erakovic, she'll pass her, and hopefully a few more, in the rankings. Let The Climb begin! |

Daniela & Anabel play Andrea Hlavackova & Liezel Huber in the first round of the doubles so that will be a difficult match. The winner plays Chan/Govortsova or Dekmeijere/Malek in the second round. I think Huber gets partners because she's good at doubles, it's probably not because of her personality. Hlavackova seems like a nice person so I think she can deal with Huber for a match. |

Great to see her playing  1-0. Daniela breaks to deuce and saves 2 GP's 2-0. Daniela holds to 30 2-1. Erakovic holds to 15 2-2. Daniela broken to 30 2-3. Daniela saves a GP, but Erakovic holds to 30 3-3. Daniela came back from 0-30 down to hold to 30 3-4. 4-4. Daniela holds to 30.. puhhh 4-5. Erakovic holds to 30 with ace... 5-5. Daniela saves 1 SP to hold 5-6. Erakovic saves 2 BP's to hold 6-6. Daniela has a GP but wasted... holds with the 2nd GP 6-7. 0-1, 0-2, 1-2, 1-3, 2-3, 2-4, 2-5, 2-6, 2-7 I also didn't like her attitude... 1 or 2 things go wrong and daniela is pissed off....

Daniela already looks so fed up 2-2, she's not going to win this with that attitude..snap out of your bad mood daniela! 1-0 2-0 2-1 2-2 2-3 3-3 good hold from 0-30 down, she still looks as though the world is against her...her serve looks really weak.. 3-4 daniela's clearly not enjoying her tennis at the moment.. 4-4 4-5 Daniela's returning is shite 5-5 saved set point, it's just all in all really average tennis 5-6 Daniela had two non-consecutive break points...urgh same old story.. 6-6 6-7(2) just miserable all round.. It's really hard to support someone who is simply miserable all the time.. 1-2 set and a break down, it's just been hurrendous...it's like she's chilling out on the beach, no fight, no excitement just rubbish.. |

Just an awful display from Daniela. Wouldn't have minded if she played with spirit and heart but she looked so grumpy all match. I won't say anymore. But this was an ideal tournament to boost her ranking and gain confidence and the exact opposite has happened. I'm not even surprised. Erakovic was good but an average Daniela would have won that in straight sets. Sort yourself out.. I've always thought that they'll be one or two tournaments where Daniela does amazing things before she retires but now I'm sure it's going to happen at all.. |
