We'll just see how Daniela does here. She's not officially in the field although she's posted on her facebook and twitter that she's going to be there. She should just about get a seeding under the 14 January rankings and she should be able to beat any of the unseeded players as long as she plays well although the seeds are mostly in better form than her and there are some good players there. It's going to be difficult for her to defend the trophy but when she came here in 2011 she hadn't won a match that year and she won the tournament. The courts should be fast which should help her. A lot will depend on how healthy Daniela is as she was hampered by injury in Australia. Hopefully Daniela's recovered and is able to give this her best effort, but we have to take this one match at a time and a decent draw would be nice.

Is there any way for me to borrow 1/100th of Daniela's frequent flyer miles?
It has been so much fun and so unique these last 2 years to watch Dani own a tournament. Should she draw another qualifier/lesser light and lose in the 1st round, it would be far more crushing than it would normally be, at least to me. Hoping that will not happen, because if she is behind in such a 1st round match, there ought to be no other place on earth where Daniela should feel more confident about turning a match into her favor than in Pattaya City. May the Good Lord be with her this week as she goes for the triple.

I don't suppose that it's going to be any different for Daniela from the last two years when she played Fed Cup in Bratislava before flying out to Thailand. Daniela probably wants the same routine that's worked for her in the past. It is a bit surprising that she spent so long In Melbourne though.

It's a reasonable enough draw. As long as Daniela's fully fit she should be able to beat Puchkova easily enough, but we thought that about the last three opponents. Puchkova did beat Tsurenko in Brisbane qualifiers although she got thrashed 6-0 6-0 by Shazza at the Australian Open. Daniela beat Puchkova twice in 2007.

Peer's beaten Daniela in the past so she could be tough should they meet in the second round and Ivanovic would be a difficult match in the quarter-final. The way things have gone in recent tournaments we have to take things one match a time and Daniela has to focus on getting past Puchkova. Daniela really needs to get back into the winning habit again and this is a great time and place to start.

Daniela's playing with Sorana Cirstea in the doubles and they start with Kimiko Date-Krumm & Casey Dellacqua which is the fourth match on Court 1 tomorrow. It'll be a good chance for Daniela to get in some match practice and get used to the conditions.

The sound you don't hear from New York is me jumping up and down that Dani's doing doubles. Again, this is a one time opportunity for her to three-peat, and IMHO that should have her full concentration. (Of course, if I managed her career, she would have quit years ago :!: :!:)
I like who Daniela drew first for 2 reasons: She's not a lucky loser/qualifier, and, it is obvious considering the long run of 1st round losses since last June, Daniela should not see this player as a Puch-over! :o

Daniela & Cirstea lost 12-10 in the doubles supertiebreak. They were up a set but lost the second and then the supertiebreak. This is disappointing but it gives Daniela a bit of match practice and Dellacqua got to the Australian Open doubles final. The important thing is that Daniela does well in the singles here.

Never pleased when Dani loses, and in her typical fashion, her team was 1-5 down in the tiebreak and got it to 10-10 (we'll never know if they had a match point at 10-9). Since I wasn't keen on her playing doubles anyhow, nothing to shed tears about. I really don't want to contemplate the foreseeable future for Daniela should she not win tomorrow. So, to an age-old question of Ya Think You Own The Place, I hope she feels the answer is Yes!
