Mr. nynascar: Albany!!!!!! 2 Daniela Maniacs 30 miles apart in upstate New York!? :) Like the crack about the price of a soda. I ranted a bit about that last year, as to why, when this tourney is a license to print money, they can't put the electric eyes on every court. When Dani was struggling so badly early on, she didn't need a call to get her goat. Let the Good Lord bless with a run in one or both doubles. Here's a real pipe dream, everyone...If Daniela could somehow win both titles, she'll have a perfectly rounded record (5 singles, 10 doubles, 5 mixed)! Oh, hey, why not?

Wozniacki loses 6-2, 6-2 to Begu.

I think it's time to find out if dumping PGA golfers is the new market inefficiency.

Haha, Upstate represent! I really wouldn't mind the cost of everything if 1) they had the other major soda brand, and 2) they did *something* useful with the money. There is so much the USTA could do: universal Hawkeye; a rain team that could double as baggage checkers so the line at 11:00 doesn't go all the way back to the Unisphere; a roof on some stadium, even if it's not Ashe; even fix up the flying saucers in the NYS Pavilion. But instead, we're getting a relocated, uncovered Grandstand, which nobody's asking to have replaced. I don't get it.

Fingers crossed for the doubles. Already had 1 top seed go out, hopefully the upsets continue.

We've mentioned we're less than thrilled with Daniela's attitude at times, but has anyone's attitude gone south as quickly as Caroline's? Sunshine no more.

I've watched the highlights on youtube, and to be fair Daniela's form is slowly coming back, her ground-strokes on the whole were deep and fast, the standard of tennis look like it could have been a 3rd round match. A definite improvement on Montreal.

Daniela made errors on shots when she was on top of the rally and sometimes even when she had an open court! That made the difference. But the encouraging thing is that her movement, (although never going to be amazing) was pretty good most of the time. The 5-3 game was a lack of concentration, she double faulted on the first point and then an error, followed by Nastya having two return winners in that game.

Daniela knows that she can go deep in tournaments, her play just hasn't come together yet, and I think her comments are encouraging, as she knows that she could have won that match.

We just gotta hope that she has at least one excellent tournament in the Asian Swing as they are big pointers. The indoor season is so short and small tournaments, but I will welcome any back-back wins!

It was a bad performance, eddy. Wasn't as if Nastya was playing particularly well herself-she gifted Daniela 2 breaks off her own racket. For every good point Daniela played, there were a couple of shoddy ones to follow. And there is no excuse for a player of Daniela's experience to play a TB like that.

Anyway, hope she does well in the doubles today.

It was the sort of performance that a good coach would be able to make improvements on, so there is cause for optimism as long as she gets rid of Pistolesi. This surely has to be the last tournament he coaches Daniela. She normally changes coaches at the start of the indoor season, so she can just make the change a couple of tournaments early. Hopefully Daniela unleashes her inner Jesus Gil with a large helping of Roy Keane in Saipan upon Pistolesi. He can stick it up his bollocks.

The golfer/tennis player relationship works so much better for the golfer, McIlroy won the US PGA and Garcia won his first tournament in years the other week.

I know it's nice to spend time with your man,but you really have to question the wisdom of having Sergio hit with Daniela all the time. It's not like Sergio is going to fine-tune his game for the Ryder Cup by playing 18 holes of matchplay with Daniela,so why don't they get a proper pro to hit with?

And you have to question the wisdom of a coach who lets this happen.

Anastasia getting crushed in her second round match. I really don't know how to feel about that.

Nastya is in terrible physical condition. 1 decent match was probably all her body could handle at the moment.

I don't understand. How can Nastya get hammered next match...it don't make sense. Not surprised at the doubles loss. When was the last time Daniela lost first round.in both singles and doubles??

Completely agree with the comments about Garcia. Daniela needs to focus and hit consistently with pro players. Not faff around...

As we clamor for Daniela to Fire the Pistol, I have one more thing on the wish list (which is not to be confused with the delusion list....which consists of ever hearing from Dani, though I never stop trying). That would be another doubles partner! I thought Daniela/Dominika was only for the Olympics. Last I heard, they ended. They teased us by winning their first match together in a blowout, and again today with the 1st set, but this ain't working. I imagine Aga would prefer to play doubles with her sis; understandible, but a real shame, because Daniela/Aga really looked like they could go places. I know few care about doubles, so why should I? Because I can see a scenario where Dani eases out of the sport as basically a doubles specialist. Just IMHO; certainly there's nothing out there that in any way suggests that. With the right partner, which Domi is not (again IMHO), she could get a couple of more titles and feel better about her career when it does end. Am I nuts? (Don't answer that!!)
