Daniela's gained plenty of points in the past fortnight, and the coming fortnight has the same potential. No points to defend in Melbourne, and with the way Daniela's playing she can certainly win a few rounds here. Alot depends on the draw, but if she gets somewhat lucky, as she did in Brisbane and Sydney, then going through to the latter stages of week 1 or even the start of week 2 is possible.

Draw ceremony is on Friday, 10 am local, live on AustralianOpen TV

a 3rd round is very likely... 1st round against qualifier, 2nd vs. Rus or Tsurenko, but then possible 3rd vs. Kim Clijsters... puh

Yup horrid draw..and even if she somehow gets past clijsters should they play, she's got Li waiting in R4 :x

I'll take 3rd round here, especially after last year...go for it Daniela!

The only saving grace is she's avoided Serena...

3rd round is surely the minimum expectation here with a qualifier in round one and then two girls I have absolutely no idea about (I've heard of Rus, but not Tsurenko). Kim has had her recent hip injury which may hamper her so Daniela should feel relatively confident should they meet, but we shall cross that bridge when we come to it.

So, Lepchenko, the 'american', in round one. Ranked 127, first time the two have met. Don't think I really need to say much more.

Lepchenko is a very good clay court player, beating Pennetta at the French Open 1st round last year. Lepchenko's hard court results are quite poor, although I would say that she has come through qualifying very easily, not dropping more that two games a set.

Daniela will need to be in her groove from the get-go to quash any hope Lepchenko will have. The first set will be crucial.

Good luck Daniela, and if she comes through this first match, it's always nice to get the first win out of the way and not have to wait around.

The temperature won't be too hot either as she'll be on court 11am.
