A good enough win from Daniela, but I would have liked to have seen her take that second set. Ivanova was a break up all the way through the second set until Daniela broke back to level the score. She did the hard work in getting the set to a tie-break but then wasn't able to capitalise (which is a little concerning since she is normally solid in tie-breaks). At least she fought back comfortably in the decider and gave the Russian a thumping there.
Szavay will be pretty tough, although by the looks of the scoreline Peng came quite close to beating her, and Daniela has never had too much trouble against the Chinese number 3. However, Daniela has never beaten Szavay (even when they met during her solid 2007 season), and so a win later today would be pretty impressive and would certainly give Daniela plenty of confidence for the rest of this tournament and indeed the Australian Open Series.

Petkovic beat King in the second round so it would be the German in the quarter-finals for Daniela should she beat Szavay. A semi-final spot is likely if she gets through today.

A decent hold from Daniela to get on the scoreboard. Once she's settled into the match I think we could have a tight contest. Both players are fresh and eager for wins so this could be interesting.
