Great win by Daniela, her best for a long, long time and this has to give her a huge amount of confidence to beat her nemeses (Cornet & Lang) on what is her weakest surface. I was really concerned after that errorfest when she served for the match but she regrouped and broke Cornet for the win. It's a great job by Daniela to come from behind and again she showed her fighting spirit. Whoever wins the second set always wins between Daniela and Cornet. Daniela's the new Guga. |

i liked how larri passos was standing up towards the last few games and really egging Daniela on!! aside from her last service game, this was a nice effort from Daniela, though plenty of room for improvement. she always managed to break back after being broken herself, so that was good. she never really let cornet take a big lead first top 20 win since sydney last year, and first top 15 win since nov 2007! excellent! this could be the confidence boosting win she needs! |

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT WIN!!!!!! Daniela did amazing to come back from a set and a break down. I hope Cibulkova can back this win up! To go 2-0 up after the 1st day would be awesome! I really hope this win proves for herself that she can get back into the world top 10 again. I see that the Slovakian tennis camp were so supportive of her - one guy (it may be her new coach) gave a her a huge hug and was like whispering in her ear for like 2 mins and Daniela almost looked like she was gunna cry of happiness. I think it's been a very emotional 18 months for Daniela, it must have been very tough on her to miss all the clay season last year which so obviously affected the rest of the season, especially after being so close to reaching a Grand Slam final. I really hope that Cibulkova can win her 2 rubbers so that Daniela can go to Stuttgart feeling fresh rather that having to play potentially 2 more intense matches, as next week's tournament offers a lot of ranking points so Daniela can try and get seeded for Roland Garros. However, one fears that she is due a tough draw soon as she has had very good draws up until now. If someone recorded this match or has it online, please upload it so we can all enjoy the match. I watched our tie against the US, which ended a bit unfortunately, but this Daniela's win over claycourt princess from France really made my day.

The match was a typical Daniela-Cornet match with Daniela doing most of the ball striking and Cornet retrieving and counterpunching. Daniela was hitting the ball fairly flat while Cornet was using a lot of topspin. Unlike in Australia or Paris Daniela was able to sustain her level while, it was Cornet that fell away and she made more errors. Daniela hit 54 winners and 54 UEs and some of the errors were because of Cornet's retrieving while some were just out. There generally weren't that many bad errors. Daniela was dictating most of the play and she was able to maintain a pretty good level throughout the match. Daniela's second serve was still a bit weak as Cornet was able to make inroads on it, but Daniela returned well and she hit some great return winners. The only time that Daniela played really badly was when she served for the match at 5-3 and she made some bad errors but that was disappointment at missing the match point in the previous game and Alison Lang calling a ball from Cornet that landing out the line in, Daniela stopped play as it landed and Lang came down to check and said it was out and Daniela couldn't believe it. I'm convinced that Lang did that because Cornet complained about an out call earlier in the set. Daniela regrouped at the changeover, got her focus back and was able to break Cornet to win. |

Daniela's the new Guga. Did she grunt like that? Well, she was coached to clay success by Larry Passos Daniela didn't make more noise than usual and she didn't draw a heart on court either, so still a bit to go. I'll take a few Roland Garros titles to help her on the way. |
