As predicted the two sides of Daniela seen here, the one we know can perform and pick apart lower ranked players like this one and the one that makes a meal of things, the end result it what matters though and it was a win, Szavay will be much tougher though.

A win is a win. It seems that in the second set Ivanova upped her level a bit as her stats were the best in that set while Daniela's first set percentage was at 49% and her second serve was punished. Ivanova had won sets against decent players in Suarez Navarro, Larcher de Brito and Date Krumm last year so she is someone that's capable of playing well. It also seems like Daniela's level dropped in the second set as her serving stats were pretty good in the first and third sets and she also made inroads into the Ivanova serve, so Daniela upped her level when she needed to in the third set. The concern is that this is another tiebreak that Daniela's lost - I think this is her fifth in a row - and one of her strengths last year was that she won a lot of tiebreaks.

Szavay will be a tough opponent as she beat Daniela the two times they played before although their last meeting was almost two years ago and Szavay's form has been inconsistent since then. However, she's a talented player and Daniela will need to play well to win.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

New year - same result.

But I don't want to complain. It was the first match of the season. But Daniela should have won in straight sets. But it seems like, she really loves those 3-setters.

Hope for a good performance against Szavay. A win would be really important.

In a funny way i'm glad she spent quite a long time out there as it gave her good match experience for the start of the season. Also an up and down match like this would have shown daniela what she still needs to work on.

At the risk of sounding terribly cliche, it's just great to see her, and tennis for that matter, back.

Well, i guess we can give Daniela some allowances considering it's her first game of the season but she really should have won this match in 2 sets. It was encouraging to see her break Ivanova when she was serving for the second set, but disappointing not to see her take it out in the tiebreak. Again, it's the first match of the season so too much probably shouldn't be read into any Daniela inconsistencies, but it'd be nice to see her at least put in a strong performance against Szavay, otherwise i'll be slightly worried for the remainder of her Australian campaign.

I think it's hard to say about the second set since we didn't see it ourselves. But there is at least one positive sign from is match is that she came back strong in the third set after losing the tiebreak frustratedly (especially when she fought hard to come back in that set). Agnes is a different level, so Daniela must definitely level up her game and stay consistent throughout the match. Hopefully we can have another positive result.

It's great the match is on Rafter as the match will be televised.

Live streams that should show the match:
