I definitely think Daniela has a chance against Safina right now. Safina is on the way back but she is nowhere near she was in their last meeting. As long as Daniela plays well and consistent throughout the match, she will definitely have a good chance.

Daniela plays second match of the day tomorrow, after Dementieva-Bondarenko.

Encouraging win by Daniela. It's really hard to predict what Safina will do in the next round. I'm confident though, that if Daniela plays well then she's more than a chance.

I don't want to be a grey cloud here, but I just hope Dinara doesn't have those "inspiring moments against daniela" moments so many players seem to have...

Come on danka! :)

It'll all depend on Safina's serve...if she's double-faulting then Daniela's got a really good chance but if Safina's serving well it'll be tough...

We'll see how Daniela does against Safina today. When Daniela was in top form from the 06 indoor season to Australia 08, she beat Safina three straight times so she can definitely beat Safina and Safina's form this year has mostly been terrible. Safina has been showing signs of life recently and she beat Petrova in Montreal and avenged her loss to Schiavone in Montreal in the first round here, so she'll have a bit more confidence coming into this match plus she's won the most recent matches against Daniela. A good match that shows how erratic Safina can be would be Rosmalen last year when Safina produced an error-fest for the first set and a bit in a preview for 2010, then her coach came on and gave her a pep talk and then Safina started booming down serves and blasting winners for the next two and played like the world no.1.

Daniela's had good recent wins against players with a similar style to Safina so we'll see what happens. A lot will depend on what Safina does but Daniela has the skill and ability to win and she's beaten Safina when Safina was a top 10 player.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Dementieva vs K.Bondarenko has been going on for almost 3 hours...hope Daniela isn't over practicing,

Dementieva snatches the win as predicted..76 67 64

They've shoved in Blake match before Daniela's so now we have to wait even longer! How annoying...

Daniela next on court - I'll be in chat

Seriously,a thigh muscle pulled just before the last Slam of the year? This is the third time Daniela has been crocked just before a match this season alone( IW and Charleston were the other examples). Someone on her fitness staff needs to be fired, pronto.

Safina I'm sure did not play lights out tennis, but I guess she held her own in the clutch moments. Daniela's abysmal tiebreak record continues. Oh danka, this year is still spiraling down

The thigh thing troubles me the most...

If you go to the Forty Deuce site and scroll back on the tweets, they say that Daniela's thigh was heavily strapped during the match, and she had to call the trainer halfway through the first set to have extra taping applied. There is also a video at the CP where she talks about pulling a muscle during training in the morning(she had an ice-pack on the injury).

That's two seasons in a row she lost on two tiebreaks. I.e toronto last year. Sucks big style. I really thought she'd make semis here.

From twitter:

"DF and two bad backhands give the break back to Dani, who to her credit is playing solid. Still think Dina will pull this out though. "
