I'm also worried about Daniela's ranking in general. But i think it's more important that she play tournaments in a fashion that's best for he and not her ranking. The only real room that Daniela has to make any significant gains in her ranking will be between now and RG (although she's obviously losing the points from Warsaw). While her form has been fantastic and i like her chances of going deep at Wimbledon if she continues like this, if her ranking isn't high enough it's hard to see her making a quarter.

Daniela is stuck in a very awkward position in the rankings at the moment. It's hard for her to do well at the bigger tournaments because she's unseeded so even when she's playing well (Miami is a perfect example) she doesn't get half as much reward as some of the players who basically coasted through the draw and went further than her because they had far easier opponents.

Top ten seems out of the questions this season unless Daniela makes a big run now. It's rough, but it's not beyond her.

Daniela does not play at center court. Tomorrow's schedule :

PIETRANGELI start 1:00 pm
R Vinci (ITA) vs A Kleybanova (RUS)
[13] F Schiavone (ITA) vs D Hantuchova (SVK)
[11] Y Wickmayer (BEL) vs [Q] K Sprem (CRO)
G Dulko (ARG) vs P Schnyder (SUI)

They chose Errani and Pennetta to play at center court :(

I think it's important that Daniela doesn't overplay just to chase ranking points and that she prepares herself as well as she can for the tournaments that she enters. Daniela has the chance to gain points in Rome, Madrid and Roland Garros so she can come out of the clay season with more points than last year, she gained 200 points at Charleston and she can gain more provided she maintains her form of recent tournaments.

Daniela will drop her points from Warsaw but she doesn't have any points to defend at Roland Garros, plus it's not going to affect her seeding at Roland Garros. None of Warsaw semi-finalists won a match at Roland Garros, so it probably isn't great preparation for Roland Garros. It's probably better that she spends the week before Roland Garros resting and training, to give herself the best chance of success there.

Sometimes the rankings can be unfair. Daniela got to the semi-final in Charleston but only went up one place while Dominika Cibulkova didn't play and still went up a place.

It's a long season and there are a lot of tournaments to play. Daniela has the chance to gain points at her remaining clay tournaments but she has a lot of points to defend between Wimbledon and the US Open so it's important the she's fit and healthy to defend these points. After the US Open, she has the chance to gain points in Asia and the European indoor season. Daniela had to miss Linz and Bali last year because of her back problems and she was hampered by a back injury at Indian Wells. Daniela has to play the long game and make sure she's able to maintain a good level throughout the season rather than risk injury or burnout by overplaying.

Well said, Chungwit. Its a long season and it isn't all about the points every week.

She is having a good season, including Fed Cup, if she keeps playing like that the points and rankings will follow.

Absolutely! Although her results this year have so far been consistently good, so we must stay positive that more and better results like this are round the corner.

I think the WTA ranking poiints distribution has gone out of hand. It doesn't seem to reward consistency anymore. Below shows you why:

Rezai is only ahead of Daniela because she won the Bali tour of Champions at the end of 2009. I still don't know why Daniela didn't accept that wildcard!

Zheng is only ahead of Daniela because of Australian Open SF.

A lot of people are making some good points here. The rankings system is terribly broken in that it makes no adjustment whatsoever for strength of opponent. So if Daniela defeats Schiavone in round one and Jane Doe defeats a qualifier, they receive the same number of points. The rankings also terribly overcompensate for the Grand Slams, which amazingly has led to Zheng Jie being the worst player in the top twenty two years in a row because of draw-aided, fluky performances in a Grand Slam.

Apparently Wozniaki is quite badly injured but is playing anyway under WTA rules (i think she wants to avoid an 0) The source is tennisforum so don't know how reliable.

So if Daniela gets through a the first two rounds then the draw could open up.

Hopefully Daniela will at least hold here. She'd wanna start the 3rd set serving.

EDIT: Nice love hold from Daniela. Hopefully she's getting back on track.

It's a set all. Daniela had break points in Franchesca's final 2 service games and she held to love. So she doesn't seem far off the mark. Hopefully she'll come out with a good strong hold at the start of the third.
