Another tournament over in R1 and another possible injury. I feel for Daniela, she must be very frustrated.

I think we cannot expect much from her this year, even if she regains some fitness. Her ranking will go down and her draws will be more troublesome.

I feel really discouraged.

Hey guys I just got back from the my day at Wimbledon.

Here's my report on Daniela although I know you guys saw the match...

At the beginning of the match Daniela was a little flat, and Hampton hit a few what the f shots that landed on the bass line corner and then there was Hampton's shot that went in a divot in the ground that totally bounces stupidly away from Daniela I think on a break point for Daniela.

Both times Daniela broke back in the first set she dropped her serve and 4-5 down Daniela played a shocking service game.

The 2nd set was much closer Daniela able to level up to 3-3 after going 1-3 down again. She had a little more bite in her shots which is what made it closer. Hampton again hit about 3 or 4 what the f shots again and the crowd her were mainly pro-Daniela were realising that this was not going to be Daniela's day. Then came the slight slip and Daniela kept feeling her knee. She did incredibly well to save those match points at 4-5, and also to force a tiebreak but again she played a dreadful tiebreak and Hampton came up with some lucky deep shots that could have easily gone wide.

My overall assessment of Daniela's game:

She doesn't have enough power on her serve or bite on her ground strokes.

She's still lovely to watch as ever but the game has changed and she needs to stick out longer rallies rather than go for winners. She very rarely plays percentage tennis on crucial points.

Most importantly, I don't think Claudio has done ANYTHING for Daniela's game. I know she's had the injuries but Daniela's best results have come this year when Claudio has been absent. I think sack him and try one last new coach.

I'm very sad about the loss but I'm more sad about the fact I think I now have realised that Daniela's dreams of winning a Grand Slam and an Olympic medal are probably not going to happen.

Until now I always believed she could do it, and I hope I'm wrong but unless she can hit with more depth and power she's going to repeatedly get beaten in early rounds.

Anyway, Daniela looked amazing but right now she should probably pull out of the doubles and focus on getting fit for the Olympics.
