In the statistics -- what counts as a winner or an unforced error? I add them up and it doesn't equal the number of points played.

well if you hit the ball inside the court and the opponent doesn't touch it, it's a winner
if you hit the ball wide, long or in the net on a "easy" shot it's an unforced error
if you hit the ball wide, long or in the net because the opponent played a really good point and you didn't have a chance, it is a forced error. These points are never in the stats, and that's why winners+UEs does not equal total number of points played
So . . .

Points won - Winners - Opp. errors = Opp. forced errors

Yay! Just bought myself some tickets for the game tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be as nerve racking as the Casey Delacqua game i went to - so many times i thought she was gunna drop that first set.

yup if you count df as unforced errors, and aces as winners.

Carla Suarez Navarro just won a set off of Venus Williams (a set each) . I hope she doesn't let up.

Kind of has a problem rolling over the games/sets. I saw Dementiva get pumped up on a break point today. Is the way it should be done.

Arr. She did it again. Halfassed approach down the line.

It's tough to win games at all against Venus much less enough to win a set or two. She's doing a good job of thwarting inevitability.

Uh oh. She's just taken some damage.

4-5 and low duece. Oh my Venus sailed one. 5-5. Sailed another one. hmm. Suarez seems to be capitalizing on this. Bastard's challenge and Suarez lead 6-5 on serve.

2x match point and she gets shifty with the forehand. Venus caught in the webbing.

Carla Suarez Navarro has taken it.

can't believe Venus is out. I wanted her to reach at least SF. I don't like Navarro, she is one of the few young players (a long with Cornet) I dislike. I really want the young players to have break-throughs, just not her and Cornet. But Vika, Caro and Cibulkova.

Navarro played some really good points. The one-hand backhand is going to be there for a while I think.

Scratch that, she played a couple of really good sets. Venus was serving avg. 171 and Navarro was returning fantatic. There were points that really exceeded my expectations. Venus was under a lot of pressure.

Daniela's done better than Venus if nothing else.

I only saw the third set and I wish I'd seen more. Suarez Navarro played exceptionally well and thoroughly deserved the win. It was a great performance and she was finding incredible angles, her backhand was superb and she was hitting amazing winners. Venus played very well too and it was a match that had quality play from both players. Probably the best women's match of the year so far.

Really good win for Daniela & Ai in the doubles.

A real shock for Venus. She was definately one of the favourites for the title following her win in Doha.
For me, she was probably the favourite over Serena.
Looks like Dementieva will now make the semi-final :roll: Hopefully Stosur or Cibulkova can stop her.

It's almost always nice when you see some favourites are losing their matches against unknown players. It makes sport fantastic, there are equal chances, everyone can take it. Personally, I don't like Williams sisters because of their behaviour on the courts. As long as I can accept Venus if need be, I can't stand Serena though. Suarez Navarro played pretty good match and I thought she really deserved it.

I personally like both the Williams sisters.
Women's tennis would not be where it is today if it wasn't for them. Media/television coverage would not be anywhere near as vast either, so we wouldn't see as many of Daniela's matches.
If you ask non-tennis fans to name a female tennis player then 9 times out of 10 they'd probably say one of the Williams sisters.
Besides the popularity they have given to the game, they also both have great games, and despite not always focusing on the small tournaments, they are there when it counts, and I don't think they can be blamed for this.
