Yeah, i'm on it right now ;)

Dani seems to be making a fair few errors :S

EDIT: Daniela just tried a genuine slice approach shot. I don't know if i've ever seen that before! Lol

I haven't got the stats. But it seems like Daniela's serve is really keeping her in it.

Ugh. Daniela had the set on her racquet - 2 break points at 5/4 up. Disappointing to see her not convert.

Good win for Daniela, although lots to work on.

Good solid win by Daniela. Once she got going her groundstrokes were good, she had some nice touch shots and scored on a few drop shots, she served well and she moved fairly well. It was an efficient win and she did what she needed to do.

Well the main thing is that Daniela has got passed a potentially tricky opponant in straight sets. Any win is good for confidence, especially when a grand slam tournament is less than a week away.
Seems likely that it will be K.Bondarenko in round 2, although Flipkens will surely have some support since shes from a Benelux nation, and this could help her cause an upset. I'm not sure who I'd prefer Daniela to play. Flipkens can have some very good days, as can Bondarenko. Either opponant will be pretty tough. Lets just hope Daniela brings a good game to the court on Wednesday.

Daniela was rusty at the beginning, her feet were stuck in grass and she hit too many errors. She improved in both these areas later, though not by much. I saw more slices and body serves from her in this match than in her entire career I guess. So she can slice at will afterall, that was one of the things I wasn't entirely sure of. Though many of her slices were affected by generally poor footwork, that netted slice approach shot immediately comes to mind. Serve ok, nothing spectacular, Vinci was harmless on backhand return, slicing all the time = no big problems on 2nd serve for Daniela. Vinci showed nothing of interest aside of several good slice serves and some dropshots, Daniela should be beating such players much more easily than 7-6 6-4. But with this footwork it becomes considerably harder.

I didn't manage to watch the end of the second set but it was pretty clear that Daniela's only real short coming was her execution. What comes to mind in particular was when she had set/break points at 5-4 up in the first and was in control of points, which she ultimately lost due to wayward errors. It's heartening to see her take it out convincingly in a tie-breaker though. Her footwork seemed a bit sluggish at times, like she was easily out maneuvered but ultimately her head seemed to be in the match and it was actually really pleasing to see her trying some new things. The back hand slice wasn't entirely successful, but i think it's such a valuable shot for Daniela to play considering she's such a strong volleyer. As a side note, she seemed pretty rock solid on that front today, although i would have liked to see her get in a bit more, but i guess it's always going to be harder on grass considering the pace of the court and how flat Dani hits the ball. All in all a good performance. Vinci asked her question and Daniela answered them.

She wasn't playing perfect tennis, but winning when you're not playing your best tennis is the only way to string a few wins together - something she's been struggling with. We saw Safina at the french fall apart in the final having played near flawless tennis all tournament.

Good thing she won that match...
I wasnt able to watch the livestream but from the score i think it was tight but good thing Dani won...
from the stats, she got high 1st serve percentage...

She needs to practice and work harder on her execution and strategy...this will make her more confident...
Good luck on the 2nd round....

You can do it Dani!

Good to see Daniela win this one. I was worried that the Tokyo debacle might happen again(Vinci absolutely chopped her in 2007).

The backhand slice is such a valuable shot on grass-Murray was killing everyone with it at Queens. I seem to remember Daniela using it a lot in 2007,so more power to her! As far as movement goes, the first match on grass is always tricky-even a fine grass-court player like Hewitt was having trouble last week.
