I hope Danka will at least win a match since she just celebrated her birthday.

Moral boost I guess! :D

Well the doubles will be tight, but I think I'd favour Slovakia just because Daniela and Dominika have more experience and would probably be able to stay more competitive than Mathilde. Obviously Dechy has alot of doubles experience and will be a great threat if it goes down to a deciding rubber. Moreover, she could well bring out the best in Mathilde, especially in a national competition such as this.
As for the singles, none of the four players have been in great form over the past six weeks, so it will come down to who handles the pressure and who plays nearest to their best tennis on the clay.
I think the first days play is going to be critical in terms of the winners gaining much needed confidence and therefore going into the second day with a stronger mental attitude than the other two.

Hantuchova hopes to extend record

Like her opposite number, former world No. 1 Mauresmo, Hantuchova – who celebrated her 26th birthday on Thursday - has won more Fed Cup singles matches for her country than any other player, and would dearly love to help her team back into the main competition in 2010.

“After the injury last year, I feel that much more privileged to be playing at all,” Hantuchova said of a difficult period in which she slumped from her second stint in the Top 10. “Something like that makes you appreciate tennis that much more.

“I like to play at home but I also like to play away because when all the people are against you – that’s when you have to come up with some good stuff,” she added. “It would be awesome to be back in the World Group. I think with our team we deserve to be there. We just have to prove it.”

Slovak captain Matej Liptak, like Escude, will be stationed courtside for just the second time. “Every match will be very even, very open. I think it’s 50:50 on every rubber. But if we want to be in the World Group we need to beat teams like the French. To do that, we need to get three points. Who gets them, it doesn’t matter.”
