Goerges and Strycova played incredible. Barely missed a shot and were smashing winners aces and volleys eveywhere. Daniela and Hingis were ok but were reacting out there rather than coming forward. Too many mistakes too from them both..Daniela couldn't find a first serve but did only get broken once. Goerges and Strycova kept smashing the ball directly right at Daniela and Martina which was really pissing me off, and Daniela and Hingis were getting annoyed too...

Oh well let's hope next week in Cincy is better both in singles and doubles..

That was a bit depressing. Goerges and Zahlavvova Strycova played well, especially Goerges who served powerfully, hit big groundstrokes and volleyed well. Strycova also won quite a few points by poaching at the net. Their net play was a lot better than Kvitova & Kerber's. Daniela played well, her serve was good and she made some great shots but Martina didn't play anything like as well as she did in the first round
and her serve was weak again.

I don't know if Alex saw this match but he can make the comparison between this match and the one with Goerges and Jurak in Carlsbad. I'm guessing that Goerges played a lot better here.

Goerges probably had a lot of anger to get out of her system after getting her arse handed to her in Carlsbad. Daniela & Martina should have fought fire with napalm and then napalm with nukes.

I'm still in California, living in my wife's best friend's apartment which features an often balky laptop, a TV with limited cable and no sound, and no Wi-Fi for my Kindle. So I had no way of seeing this match. What I can tell you is that last week, Georges played like s--t. Her 1st serve % had to have been extremely bad, and I already relayed how she swung and missed at a shoulder high volley from Daniela that had fans laughing at her. It was a very balanced team, as Jurak did next to nothing as well. Daniela and Martina had a lot to do with their poor play, of course, and I also had the feeling that Georges and Jurak were a bit intimidated to be out there with the Hall of Famer and with the media presence. Replacing Jurak must have helped Georges today, as would getting a 2nd chance so soon. So a tip of the cap to her. It leaves me a bit worried, though. We can all see the possibility of something truly fantastic happening with this team, yet right now Daniela and Martina are a mere 2-2. Guess I gotta give this more time.
BTW, am I correct in assuming that both the Olympics and Cincinnati points from last year have already been deducted from Dani's total? If so, the next 3 tourneys are just crawling with opportunity. Can only hope, right?

Let's Go, Daniela!

To be honest unless they make a semi-final at either Cincinnati, New Haven or US Open, I think Hingis might look for a different partner. This wouldn't be to disrespect Daniela but I think Daniela and Hingis are quite similar players so are unable to blast opponents off the court..which will mean that they will struggle to beat established doubles pairings as we have seen the past two tournaments.

It would have been interesting to see how Daniela could have done with Hradecka, Hsieh, Hlavackova or Kirilenko as they're all good doubles players but she never played more than a match with any of them. Hradecka & Hlavackova would have been the ones that would have been most interesting to see as they're two of the best doubles players right now and I think Daniela would have done well with them both. Daniela also did well when she partnered Srebotnik in Brisbane. Add the fact that Martina's making her comeback with Daniela and that shows that top players still rate Daniela in doubles and want to play with her.

I think if they'd broken Goerges at 3-2 in the second set then they'd have had a great chance of winning that set but they made errors on the BPs. At 4-2 and serving, Daniela& Martina would have had the momentum and Goerges & Zahlalova Strycova would have been under pressure for the first time in the match. This was the first match when Daniela and Martina were outplayed as they really should have beaten Kops-Jones and Spears in Carlsbad but ended up losing a tough match. Martina's serve needs to be better as that's been the team's weakness in the last three matches.

Cincinnati draw is up:

Very decent draw for Daniela compared to what she could have got...one round at a time of course...but I think Daniela has to treat this as if it's her US OPEN...the qualifying field is very good so we'll wait and see who her first rounder will be.

1r Qualifier
2r Vinci(12) or Mattek-Sands
3r Errani(6) or Cibulkova
QF Sharapova (or could be Jankovic/Lisicki Stephens)

Didn't Martina say she was intending to play doubles with Daniela in 2014?

I'm guessing they need match practice as a pair, first.

Is there any way research could be done to find $75 that Daniela made in a tourney long ago? Do the math, guys. That would create a new definition to Crazy Eights!:P

With pleasure. Before this week, Daniela had earned $8,888,813 in her career. If somewhere along the way she had made $75 more, it would be $8,888,888! (It does take awhile to figure out my warped mind :!: )

Let's Go, Daniela!
