I went out when it was 6-5 to Daniela in the 1st , it's nice to come home and watch the scoreboard :)
Anyway , despite all negative things maybe her 2nd set was kinda like her 1st against Cornet last week . She only lost 2 points on her serve and hit 83% of first serves .
My only thought is: Why can't she be consistent ? She have remarkable performances during a set and the others she plays like crap .
Oh well , the important thing is that she came through another round , and (at least) this 110 points will bring her back to top 40 (like nr36/37) . If she wins her match tomorrow she will pass players like Errani or Schiavone and rose to nr 31/32 (depending on the players that are still playing in other tournaments like Suarez Navarro , Dulko , etc)

Now , about Razzano .. I watched the 2nd set of her game against Safina .. She was quite agressive , returning the 2nd serves well inside the court , and making excellent shots .. But it was a game that Safina lost .. 12 DF , 33 UE to 11 Winners ! It was really a very very bad game , but Razzano played very good anyway , i'm expecting a tough game , maybe a three-setter but I think that Daniela will catch the opportunity .

Yup Razzano didn't play badly, but she wasn't given much competition in that match. Safina was awful. Normally I would say, Razzano is a player just waiting to be beaten but based on what I saw today and what I know about Daniela. I am not so sure about tomorrow.
Good luck Danka.

A good comeback by Daniela. She started a bit slowly, or Morita started well, but Daniela showed her fighting spirit to win the first set from 5-2 down and won the second easily enough. It seemed her first serve was the weakness in the first set as she only won 58% on it (compared to 64%) on first set and she only saved 1 BP out of the four she faced. Daniela made the adjustments in the second set and her serving was really solid: 83% first serves in, winning 93%. It's another win, it gives her valuable ranking points and the more wins she gets, the more her confidence grows. Daniela's through and building a base to go back up the rankings and challenge for tournaments.

Razzano is a streaky sort of player. She plays at quite a modest level a most of the time, but when she gets hot and has a bit of form, then she is a very tough opponent. She had a good win against Safina today, although Safina played pretty badly, and thrashed Schnyder at the Australian Open. The only good win Razzano had last year was against Zvonareva in Montreal and she lost to a lot of moderate players. She thrashed Hingis at the 06 US Open and was hitting winners all over the place in that match and was 5-1 up in the third against Henin in Miami 07 before losing a tiebreak, afterwards she slumped before having a good hardcourt season culminating in winning Tokyo against Venus. She has peaks and troughs, mainly troughs, but she's a dangerous opponent when she's peaking and she's peaking now.

Razzano tends to hit the ball flat, and is aggressive and tries to hit winners, so if she's on, then she'll be a difficult opponent and she beat Daniela the last time they played in Auckland 07. It's a great opportunity for Daniela but you've got to respect Razzano.

Bartoli retires and Zvonareva advances to the quarter finals.
So she is (hopefully !) the next one...

lol after her recent beat-downs the last 3 times they met, she just gives up.

I don't think so .. She was really in pain ! Against Sugiyama she had to take blood and everything because she was in fact very ill , and still she managed to win that game and the one against Schiavone . It's pretty normal her retirement due to her health condition .

well I didn't mean she actually gave up. It was a joke.

Both Virginie and Daniela save break points in their first service games in order to hold; one game a piece.

and some long games they were. Each player serving 12 times. So after two games we had 24 played points.

Daniela breaks on the first opportunity in Razzano's second service game, but Razzano breaks straight back. 2-2* after 25 minutes. Could well be a long match...

Perfectly balanced match so far. The bad news is that if they go on this way
(33 min for 5 games) then the winner will end up exhausted, while Zvonareva
will wait relaxed...

yeah, but that's tennis. Not Vera's fault that Bartoli retired and that this match is having some long games.

broken. 5 first serves in. Only won one of them. Come on Daniela. Maybe just a slow start like yesterday

Down 5-2 again. This seems to be a trend this year for Daniela.

A trend? Good one Christina...

I really hope she does comeback like that match against Morita.
