Tough 1st round, drawing azarenka. It opensup after that, but tough first round.

Azarenka lost to Pennetta this week (who has just been beaten in straight sets by Kuznetsova), so clearly Azarenka not at her best of late. Still a very tough match though.

If Daniela gets off to a good start she can win this one. She has to frustrate Vika and hopefully Vika will self-destruct. If Pattaya Dani shows up she can definitely beat Azarenka.

Tough draw. Let's see if she can raise her level.

It seems that Daniela either gets a hard draw when she's healthy or she's sick or injured whenever she gets a decent draw. In the exception, she won the tournament. We'll see what Daniela can do and if she brings her Pattaya form to Doha then she can do well here but Azarenka will be a tough opener.

Whatever the result, I love this match-up!

I have to say though they should do away with byes completely it's getting ridiculous!

Totally agree. Players like Wozniacki, Schiavone and Jankovic are picking up serious ranking points through winning just a single match. This week Jankovic had to just beat a qualifier to collect 125 points. And this coming week in Doha if Schiavone beats Kanepi or a qualifier she'll have 120 points. It's too much for winning just one match. Of course luck of the draw plays a role, as too does the fact that these events are supposed to be attracting pretty much all of the top-20 yet Clijsters, Sharapova, and Williams' sisters all absent, making the draws weaker. Obviously they have first round byes so that the top players who are more likely to have reached the weekend of the previous tournament have enough recovery time. I think I would be more content if the second round matches were tougher on a more frequent basis. Perhaps a good change would be to maintain byes but halve the number of seeds (four seeds in 28-person draws, 8 in 56-person draws), in order to generate tougher second round matches.

You people are sooo right. They might not be good as they seem. They probably get all of their confidence from beating weakish players and getting byes.

no dani play today getting frustrated, I just wanna see her play
Anyway I sense an upset over a frustrated Vika! Dani is a better server, if she keeps holding she will be unbeatable.

The thing is that Vika is a better returner. I guess it'll be a tight match.

Another tough draw. It really remains to be seen how Daniela is going to play... she's had so many 1st round losses, but she also has a tournament under her belt - as far as odd starts to a season go, this one really takes the cake.

Fingers crossed as always.
