We'll see how Daniela does here. She won't have a first round bye this time so she'll have to win 2 matches to defend her points from last year so it'll be a little harder to defend them Mind you, this is the last time she has to defend points until the grass season. It would be nice if Daniela can get a decent draw and go on a run here. She's done better here than she has in Indian Wells recently so hopefully that can continue. The last three players that have beaten Daniela are top 10ers and she beat good players like Jovanovski, Robson and Suarez Navarro recently and she also had a good doubles run in Indian Wells so she can go in with a bit of confidence. She can beat most of the players here but she can't be complacent and will have to play well. We'll take things one match at a time. Hopefully, Daniela's fully fit and can do herself justice here.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Hopefully, Daniela's fully fit

Certainly I don't want to put the jinx on her, but I'd like to think that Daniela is as fit now as she's been since Eastbourne in '11. She plays singles & doubles in every tourney. and it seems like every day in the Forum, someone's posting practice or training pictures of her. My best hope is that she somehow draws a beatable person in the 2nd round should she get to it, or that if she gets a top 5 player, that person will have endured a bad manicure! Realistically, Dani probably drops 30 pts., but as we all know, the real climb begins in Charleston. And I like that she chose to play there, not only because it's a kick start into the clay season, but that Dani remains in the USA for a few more days. Makes America a better place!

Let's Go, Daniela!

The draw is crucial here. Obviously Daniela has to get past her 1st rounder but she really needs a low seed in the 2nd round. Tennis is a cruel sport so I'm expecting the worst..stosur has withdrawn so that's one less to worry about.

Daniela opens against Tsvetana Pironkova (#46 this week, one prior meeting, 2011 Rome, Dani belted her 4 & 2), don't know yet if tomorrow or Wednesday. If successful, she gets Errani (again?), who as #8 is the highest seeded player in her quarter. The other seeds in the quarter are Paszek, Makarova and the dreaded Ivanovic. If Dani got hot here, she would not see a top 4 player until the semis (Sharapova). Hmmmm. You know I'm no optimist and Pironkova could easily win (she's on a 6 match losing streak right now, winning 1 out of 13 sets...gulp...never want to face anyone who's been going that bad, she's way overdue to all of a sudden play well, and that would hardly be something we haven't seen before), but this might about as good as it could be for Dani. Fingers crossed!

Let's Go, Daniela!

Pironkova's not too bad for the first round and I'd favour Daniela to come through and then it's roid girl Errani. This is the third tournament in a row where Daniela's had a top tenner right away, if Daniela gets past Errani that then she'd play Lisicki, Halep or Paszek and they've all got good records against Daniela. Daniela should focus on getting past Pironkova first. Pironkova's recent form hasn't been good and she's lost in the first round of her last 5 tournaments but Daniela can't be complacent and has to play well as Pironkova can be good on her day.

Daniela will start on Wednesday as Serena Williams is scheduled to play her second round match on Thursday and Daniela's in the opposite half of the draw.

Hmmm...a very interesting draw. A deep run is certainly possible...but first she must get past Pironkova. Errani 2r AGAIN. 3r looks really tasty as all are beatable.

4R here would be wonderful, but any win in these big tournaments is always welcome.

It's been a while but i'm back! This is probably the best draw you could ask for. Just needs to take one match at a time... LETS GO DANI :D

Love your avatar, Mik loves dani. Every time I see Daniela come out with that subtle fist pump after winning a point, I smile inside.
Daniela-bel opens with Madison Keys/Ajla Tomljanovic (that name should be used as a word in the final rounds of a spelling bee!). See if their progress continues.

Let's Go, Daniela!

Feature court; 1st match. Love it! Dani often does well first out of the gate, as we have seen. I enjoy it a lot when she plays in my time zone. She was 1st up when I saw her in Miami last year, and that worked out.

Let's Go, Daniela!

No livestreams? meh :x

Up a break 3-1
Breaks again 4-1

Get that breadstick, Daniela.

Set Daniela, 6-2

Got the job done 6-2 6-4 (made that last game a little bit hard by missing her first MP).

Serving stats do not look encouraging.

Yeah, yeah, yeah! #494!
Well, there goes Daniela's close-out-on-1st-match-point streak, it took two, and closing it out on serve was a little Maalox like. But it's a nice win. She never let Pironkova get any ideas of an upset. Only once broken on serve; got to like that. Only 1 hr 23 min.; that's good as well. Props to Dani for handling someone that she should. About time she caught a break in the draw. On to Errani. Good win! ;)

Let's Go, Daniela!
