This is disappointing as Chirico isn't as good as Osaka and I felt that Daniela could use the confidence and momentum from yesterday's match today but it wasn't to be. I wonder how much of a let down Daniela had after yesterday, especially making that comeback in the second set. The key moment of the match was when Daniela was 40-15 on Chirico's serve in the second game in the second set and a break there could have given Daniela momentum but Chirico held and the second set went on serve until Chirico broke Daniela at 4-4 before serving it out in the next game. If Daniela doesn't win the first set then she loses the match. The last time she came back from a set down was against Buyukakcay in Istanbul and all her wins this year have been in straight sets, so it just shows how important the first set is for Daniela. This match just feels so similar to a lot of Daniela's matches over the past year with one set being close and Daniela having opportunities but the other set is won fairly comfortably by the opponent. This is disappointing but I really didn't expect her to beat Osaka yesterday so I'll look on the bright side and remember a good win against one of the top young prospects.

Daniela's not in the doubles draw so that's it for this tournament.

Oh well. #550 will have to wait. When I woke up the first set was over. I think the two break points Dani didn't covert were the only two she had the entire match. Phooey. But yesterday was such a nice win, I'm not that forlorn about today.

It has to be tough for Daniela, for so long a spotlight player who has performed before many a sellout crowd in the biggest tourneys, to toil in these qualifiers with 6 friends and relatives in the seats. That she wins any of them testifies to her ability to self motivate. But I'll bet she wishes that she was playing on a Sunday for different reasons.

Let's Go, Daniela!

BTW, Slovakia won over Canada 3-2. Domi clinched tbings, then they went ahead with the meaningless doubles which Canada won.

Chirico must be one of those really good players that no-one has heard of yet. She chopped Giorgi to bits.

It does seem that Chirico's running into a bit of form as she beat Osaka & Safarova in Charleston and she beat Giorgi today although Giorgi is quite erratic. Chico's only other good tournament was when she beat Watson & Cornet in Washington last year. Still, everyone's got to have a time when they break through to the next level.

I don't know if Daniela will ever play Fed Cup again as she's going to be almost 34 next February and Cibulkova and Schmiedlova are the singles players while Tereza Mihalikova, one of the top juniors, made her debut in the Canada tie and she's likely to feature regularly in the future.

You're probably right. So if I post a Fed Cup result in the future, it won't be as an FYI or a BTW. Rather, it will be an IAC...If Anyone Cares! :haha:
