French Open 3rd Round: Nicolas Almagro (ESP)(19) bt. Andy Murray (GBR)(10) 6-3 6-7(3) 6-3 7-5

Hands up for Almagro who played really well today and showed Andy who was the better man on clay. Im not too disheartened by the defeat considering the calibre of opponent in Almagro so off to the Grass and all the British optimism known as the British press

Murray has quite a good draw for Artois Championships:

1R - BYE
2R - Grosjean or Qualifier
3R - Seppi, Clement, Vliegen, Gulbis
QF - Roddick

Clement or Gulbis could be dangerous in 3R. Clement got to the final of Nottingham last year (beat Gasquet in quarters) and Gulbis has had a good run on clay, especially at Roland Garros.
However, I would expect the Brit to get to the quarters and justify his seeding. Has beaten Roddick before and has a real chance of going deep into this tournament. Djokovic is in the other half of the draw and the only player I think Murray could really struggle against in his half of the draw is Nadal (potential semi-final opponant).

Other Brits in the main draw include Bogdanovic, Goodal and Evans, who all received wild cards. Bogdanovic has a qualifier in 1R, Goodal has Hewitt (seeded 11) and Evans has Malisse (who also received a wild card).

Richard Bloomfield (ATP 376) and James Ward (ATP 488) who both received wild cards into the qualifying draw have made it through to the main draw. Could be drawn against Gonzalez (seeded 10), Safin, Bogdanovic (WC) or Grosjean in round 1.

Off topic, Brad Gilbert has backed Murray as a serious contender for the Wimbledon title this year. The Artois Championships could provide a preview of the form Murray will bring to the third grand slam of the year.

I do agree, this isnt a bad draw for Murray, I dont expect him to win the title here especially with Roddick's amazing record at Queens, but I think it will do him good to get a few matches under his belt, and im sure will go into nottingham, where im assuming hes playing next and then into wimbledon with some confidence leading into the event.

As for the other brits in the draw, i think the people most likely to move on in the draw are Bogdanovic and possibly Evans, i think that Bloomfield will have a chance against Gonzo, the only reason I say that is that Bloomfield has come through qualiys he has the matches under his belt and I dont think Gonzo is that great on the green stuff as he is on the clay.

The other brits that I still havent mentions, Goodall doesnt have a hope in hell against Hewitt, same with James Ward I feel against Safin but it should be a good tournament and give me something more to watch in the tele while i dont have a job haha

I cant say I have ever heard of Daniel Vallverdu but he's teaming up with Andy so he must know him fairly well. You can certainly tell that the grass court season is very short when you look at the amount of top players that are playing in the doubles in this event. Where else would you see players like Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Safin and the like playing doubles?!

Yes, everyone wants match practice. Would be so much better if the grass court season was longer, and would be great if there was a Masters Series on grass. Probably wishful thinking!

Someone correct me if im wrong but Im sure that it has been mentioned that they should get a master series event on grass. I would assume the best place would be Eastbourne or Queens, they have already made Eastbourne next year a join WTA/ATP event, the only qualm i have about making Eastbourne a masters series event is that its quite a smallish venue so wether it could accomodate 192 singles players is questionable
