If Del Potro is able to play another time like against Nadal, I think also Federer will have great problems. Del Potro plays his best tennis ever and he almost beat Roger in Roland Garros.
Will be an interesting match I think.
Would be great for Juan Martin to win his first GS. IMO he would really deserve it.

And he did it. Federer's serve was missing in action most of the time and even though he came with some Jesus shots it wasn't enough. Del Potro showed great heart and then some. Deserved winner.

btw. before this match Fed's tiebreak record in GS finals was 16-1, if our commentators were correct. Impressive clutch play from Del Potro to combat such a statistic.

What a great final and what a geat winner.
Del Potro really deserves that title. After the re-break in the second set, the match started for him. Although he made miuch more UEs than in the SF against Nadal he really played some incredible tennis once again.

Congrats to Juan Martin. I'm sure he will overtake Djokovic in the near future.

Yes, for sure. Djokovic has all those year-end points to defend, and I don't think he will be able to defend them. Del Potro on the other hand has lots of points to gain between now and the Spring.

Del Potro played great tennis and some of his forehands were just incredible - arm like a traction engine. Plus, he played the important points very well. Most of the time he saved bps with a great serve and/or a winner and he was the better player in the tiebreaks. He also showed a lot of heart to fight back when he was down, especially breaking Federer when he served for the second set and also to fend off the bps in the early games of the fourth set, when it looked like Federer was poised to totally take control of the match.

Like Martin said, Federer just didn't serve well at all. If he'd served like he did at Wimbledon, he'd have won, but he didn't get too many easy points on serve.

I don't think that anyone's going to win a slam six times in a row.

It has been done in the past with William Renshaw winning 6 straight Wimbledons in the 1880s and Bill Tilden won 6 consecutive US Championships in the 1920s but no man's done it since. Borg came close at Wimbledon but lost the 81 final, Federer came very close at Wimbledon and the US Open and Nadal had that incredible record at Roland Garros but got stopped at 4, and if players as great as them can't get to 6, then you wonder who can.
It's possible that someone could do it, but the physical and mental demands are incredible and it just takes one inspired opponent to stop it.

Borg could have easily won 6+ French Opens in a row. He was just impossible to beat on the slow clay of Roland Garros.

Very good win by Davydenko in Shanghai. He was hitting some great winners and was dictating the match. He probably should have won more easily than he did but Nadal's defence was incredible and Davydenko made some errors when he had the chance to finish off a rally.

Marat Safin's still going for a bit longer, he just beat Davydenko in Moscow.

So many of the matches at the World Tour Final have been amazingly good. Davydenko played incredibly to beat Federer in the semi, I felt that when Federer won that point to go 0-30 at 5-4 in the third he'd go on to win, but Davydenko produced some great shots to hold on and then break before getting his first win against Federer.
So many of the matches have been close and competitive with so much great play, incredible rallies and some astonishing winners with qualification coming down to the very end of the last match of the group. 2010's going to be fantastic if this is what the standard is going to be.

I enjoyed the aftermath of the Del Potro - Federer match when no one seemed to know what was going on, the on-court interview went all Alan Partridge and after Del Potro slumped on his chair for a few minutes Carlos Tevez came on and tried to play tennis for a bit: Bizarre, surreal and very funny.
