A column in today's London Daily Mail states that the opening ceremony of next week's Birmingham tourney will be Daniela. He goes on to rail about why that's not his preference, but who freakin' cares? Obviously, we now know Dani will be in Birmingham. Let's hope the next bit of news is that she'll play!

Let's Go, Daniela!

A lot of the players that have beaten Daniela or given her a tough match this year have gone on good runs here. Zakopalova gave Shazza an awful lot of problems today, Kvitova and Kanepi are in the quarter-finals and although Halep went out in the first round she's top twenty in the race at the moment. Lepchenko took a set off Daniela at the Australian Open and she got to the quarter-final of Madrid and the fourth round at Roland Garros.

I think Shazza's going to be number 1 if she gets to the final and she's got to be favourite at the moment as she's in very good form, although given the way things have been going at this tournament nothing's a certainty. Kvitova's putting in a decent run and her best is more than good enough to beat anyone although she'd been erratic this year, it seems that not getting to number 1 in Australia affected her a bit. Every tournament she won last year had a roof of some kind on the main court but Roland Garros doesn't have a roof, first time for everything though. Having built Shazza and Kvitova up, it'll be Kanepi and Shvedova in the semi.

Roland Garros was the first man the fly over the Mediterranean from France to Tunisia in 1913, learn something new evert day.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Sadly I was right about the Stosur-Domi match. 6-4 6-1 to Sammy-hope she kills Errani in the next round.

Oh dear Lord Samantha. :wall:

Such a bad performance. :tape:

Errani is the player who Daniela destroyed 1+2 at last year's French Open. And now she's in a Slam Final. Truly mind-boggling.

wow, Errani on fire! Stosur could have done much better, but Errani definately deserved this great achievement, since she didn't lose her nerves in the deciding moments used her chances. She playey the match point extremely cool! :)

Congrats to her!

Na Li after her win over Azarenka vyobjímala

"Vika is not very popular. Deserves respect for what they could, but it is quite arrogant. That's why my number tenistiek congratulated after its decommissioning. Chinese woman to me even vyobjímala Li," Cibulkova said with a smile.
@ google translate.

Shazza's back to number 1 after getting to the final.

Daniela absolutely thrashed Errani twice last year and Errani had done nothing before this year to indicate she could have this level of success. She'd never beaten anyone in the top ten prior to this tournament in almost 30 matches.
The conditions helped Errani because it was windy and cold which slowed the court up and allowed Errani to get more balls back. Credit to her for battling and she played some good tennis but as much as anything Stosur blew it.

As well as the one Dani blasted even worse, bagel & 2, in last year's Pattaya final. Claiming at that time that Sara was a very good player and that this was a really good win for Daniela was met with a lot of scoffs and scorns. Now, win or lose the final, Sara is in the top 10. Ergo, in the semis and final last year in Thailand, Daniela beat players who were (Zvonarena) or are (Errani) top 10. That victory looks better each passing day! Let's Go, Daniela!

I think these cases (also Stosur, Schiavone, Li and maybe more) show that a player isn't determined by talent to always exit in the first rounds (or frequenty win Slams). Until 2007 Schiavone lost 8 finals, before finally winning the first title.
Before 2010 nobody would have expected her to win Roland Garros - but she raised her level and did the impossible.

I don't like the idea od determination, so that's a very motivating story to me.

Congratulations Maria! Wraps up the Grand Slam with a 6-3 6-2 win over Errani. A thoroughly deserved achievement-she has improved so much on the clay(not unlike Daniela!).

Quite a few upsets at Wimbledon today with Paszek saving MPs to beat Wozniacki, Rus beating Stosur and Cirstea beating Li Na.

Paszek won Eastbourne and got to the quarter-final last year while Wozniacki's grass record is fairly modest, Stosur's Wimbledon record is pretty bad while the Dutch like grass. I suppose the biggest upset, at least on grass, would be Cirstea beating Li Na as Li's been to the quarter-finals a couple of times.

Notice how Wozniacki and McIlroy have both slumped since they started dating.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.
