it's been known for a while that the 2009 ranking would be based on a new system. There would be more mandatory events and only a total of 16 tournaments to count towards the ranking (vs the 17 in 2008). 5 minutes ago I discovered that the points would be totally different as well. Here's a link to download the points system (pdf) they definitely favor players who do well in the grand slams and mandatory tournaments. Do you like it? think it is a bad idea? will it favor Daniela? not much is happening here during the off-season so I thought we might as well discuss this. |

we have to wait and see if wta increases the current points at the end of year atp also changed the ranking points for new season but said at then all points will recalculated with the new points. since all mandatory events will count towards on ranks,a possible failure on these will be disaster for every player. we shall see |
