Yes its been great to watch Laura's progess through the draw. A good win today, playing an opponant who will try anything (Tabakova served an under-arm second serve in the second set). A difficult match tomorrow against the number 3 seed who is ranked highly on the junior circuit. However, Robson has already beaten Oudin so why not Lertcheewakarn? Should be a good final, and particularly exciting for British tennis as a whole when you consider that the likes of Agnieszka and Urszula Radwanska have converted Wimbledon junior singles titles into success on the WTA tour.

Should be a good final, and particularly exciting for British tennis as a whole when you consider that the likes of Agnieszka and Urszula Radwanska have converted Wimbledon junior singles titles into success on the WTA tour.

Caroline Wozniacki is another name that springs to mind. The good thing with Robson is that she has time on her side. She is only 14 and has many more years of learning and developing her game. I just hope the LTA dont cock this up cause she clearly is a talent and just needs to be nurtured in the right way. I mean training with Martina Hingis is a pretty good start lol

A couple of pictures below of Robson from todays match and ALREADY sky bet, one of the leading internet betting companys in the UK, has odds of 50/1 that Robson will win the Womens Singles Title before the age of 19 and odds of 14/1 that she will win the Womens Singles Title full stop. Silly really but people will have a bet on anything

There are also odds on which top 20 player Robson will beat first. At the moment the favourites are Schnyder, Schiavone and Petrova at 8/1. Daniela is priced at 12/1 (8th favourite) lol

Well when I listened to the BBC interview with her just before the highlights show last night they said that there has already been talk of her going pro. Thats silly, in years gone by it was possible for talented 14, 15, 16 year olds going pro, but in todays womens game where power rules i dont think it would be a great idea.

Wimbledon Girls Final
Laura Robson (GBR)(WC) bt. Noppawan Lertcheewakarn (THA)(3) 6-3 3-6 6-1

First set to Robson 6-3. Great start taking a quick 3-0 lead but that soon evaporated then after holding well to go 4-3 up Lertcheewakarn seemed to lose her game under pressure and after an brilliant forehand winner down the line on the run brought up the break chances, taken and served out. One set away from the girls title, AND a place in the main draw of wimbledon 2009

Second set to Lertcheewakarn 6-3. Robson had break points in the opening game but couldnt convert but didnt have to wait long breaking in the 3rd game for a 2-1 lead, then from 3-2 Robson wasnt able to find the shots that won her the 1st set and was hitting a few more unforced errors. Lertcheewakarn held out and served out the set to take it too a decider

SHES DONE IT!!! Third set to Robson 6-1. She is the first british winner of the girls singles title for 24 years since Anabel Croft won it in 1984. Winning the first game comfortably, set up by a magical running forehand winner around the net post, then after a succession of breaks Robson consoldated her second break of the set to lead 4-1, broke again in the 6th game and on her second championship point and outswinging serve down the tee wasnt returned and Robson wins

Congratulations Laura for a brilliant, brilliant victory

Just wanted to post this from the post match interview with the BBC

BBC: Laura Robson, how does this sound. Wimbledon Junior Champion

LR: Sounds really really good. It was so good today because all the crowd was behind me and its just an overwhelming experience

BBC: You were playing a show court for the first time, you seemed so relaxed and composed out there, did you actually feel like that?

LR: Not at all, i thought i was going to be sick when I walked on court because there was so many people watching

BBC: Now all this week people have been talking about history, talking about 1984, about Anabel Croft, about you being the future of british tennis but i think whats impressed everybody is not only your tennis but the fact you just got your head down and got on with it

LR: Erm, yea, again in the 2nd set today I went a bit mad, but i got it bac together and then thats how I won I think

BBC: We saw some screams in the 2nd set but then they dissapeared in the 3rd

LR: Yeah, a bit, it was more cummon screams in the 3rd

BBC: Now I know that you said that you were going to invite Marat Safin to the ball. I understand you got a letter from the Russian today?

LR: Yeah, his agent gave it to me today and it said to Laura, Ive got it memorised actually, to Laura Im sorry I couldnt come to the ball but good luck tomorrow, and then he signed his name, it was really nice

BBC: So he's turned you down though?

LR: Yea, unfortunatley, I think he's a bit old for me anyway

BBC: Well said Laura. And in terms of plans for next year hopefully you'll get the wild card to come back into the main draw, is that the plan?

LR: Yeah, hopefully, I think cause last year they gave it too the winner of the Juniors so hopefully they'll give it to me next year

BBC: How do fancy taking on the likes of Venus Williams who won the main title today

LR: I'll take her down

BBC: Well we'll let her know what you say Laura and well done. Lets see the trophy once again. Congratulations

LR: Thank you

Back to the red clay for O'Brien which is probably a good move since the Tier IV harcourt events on the WTA Tour don't start for another two weeks. I would imagine she will then try and get entry into Portoroz or Stockholm, or enter the qualifying draw, both of which would provide her with tougher matches than what she is used to.
Domingues Lino is not the easiest opponant on clay for someone of O'Brien's current standard but I think she has a chance of winning, possibly in three sets.
British number 10 and world number 376 Anna Smith is also in Palermo in the qualifying draw. She's through to round 2 after a 6-0 6-0 thrashing of Anne Priska Schaefer (albeit the German is ranked 800 in the world). There are no seeds left in her quarter of the draw, so she has a good chance of qualifying which would be a big achievement for her.

Well Done to Laura. Very big congrats to her. Its really good to hear that british tennis is going strong

lol we are late devlopers but we will get there in the end.
