Angelique Kerber producing one of the best performances I've seen to defeat Wozniacki 6-1 6-2. Not as if Caroline played badly-just that Kerber was like a female Nadal out there.

I must admit I don't think I'll feel the difference. It's not like she is taking part of the tour this year anyways.

Ridiculous amount of drama as Razzano dumps Serena out of Roland Garros. Congratulations Virginie!

Daniela's loss to Razzano in 2009 isn't looking so bad now!

Virginie did very well to stay focused after losing a second point for hindrance which put her break point down serving at 5-3 in the final set. Many other players would have faltered there and dropped serve. I think that last game ended up being around 20 minutes in length. Superb match, with Virginie taking it on her !8th! match point. Serena, the overwhelming favourite for the title, goes out in the first round, and that is actually the first time Serena has ever lost in the opening round of a grand slam.

Slightly deceptive from the BBC. Serena didn't actually say "I'm in amazing form", although I'd imagine she thought she was, and of course everyone else thought she was too. But I see where you're coming from...
It was a nervous match from Serena today, unlike her performances in Charleston and Madrid. But there's a big difference between those events and Roland Garros, and that difference maybe got the better of Serena today.

You know, Serena's re-takeover of the tour is taking an awful long time......

Let's Go, Daniela!

Amazing win and performance by Virginie Razzano, and it's fantastic for her, especially as her fiance and coach died just before last year's Roland Garros.

Agnieszka gave Venus Williams a doing in an hour. Upset of the day was Martic beating Bartoli. I'm upset that friend of the forum Bethanie Mattek-Sands lost.

Mattek-Sands beat Lisicki in the first round, so her loss makes it even worse.. :?
Still Lisicki struggles with her injury, I hope she recovers soon and defends her Wimby points!

Terrible tournament for the Williams Sisters, but both Razzano and Radwanska truely deserved their wins. Yesterday you could really feel how desperetly Razzano wanted to get that win and how hard every stroke must have felt for her.
Awesome performance with a heart-attacking finish

Sabine Lisicki's had a lot of injuries this year so she's never really been fully fit and that's affected her form. She had a lot of problems with her ankle a couple of years ago and she's having problems again, I think because she's so stocky it puts pressure on her ankle. Her serve gives her a chance to go on a hot streak. I like Lisicki, she should be a friend of the forum too.

I've got to admit that I missed most of the excitement in the Razzano-Williams match as I switched it on at Razzano's 6th MP and I was "Way-hey Serena's going to lose" and then it got saved, the commentator said that it had been Razzano's 6th MP and I thought "Balls, Serena's going to do a Chelsea"* but Razzano steeled herself and clinched it 2MPs later, so that was tremendous for her, especially with all that she'd gone through over the past couple of years.

Razzano's had big wins before because she absolutely thrashed Martina Hingis at the US Open in 2006 and she beat Safina in Dubai when Safina was no. 2 (she beat Daniela there as well, so she was in amazing form there).

*Talking about Chelsea, if I had my way I'd have Serena Williams and John Terry locked in a room together forever, just like No Exit. Would any room be big enough for the egos?

Yes, she has an ego, but Serena has done much for women’s tennis over the past 14 years and she contributes immensely to the wider spectacle of tennis, and sport. So many players do not see the bigger picture, and do not put the game into a wider context. I think Serena does that brilliantly.

As for Radwanska’s win. There were times in that match where it was so clear that if Venus had been able to maintain her best form throughout she would have beaten Agnieszka, and probably in straight sets. Far too many errors from Williams, and not enough match practice. That will come in due course, as long as Venus stays fit.

Martic’s win was certainly big, but Bartoli hasn’t been in the best form of late, and lost to Urszula Radwanska comfortably in Brussels. A whole lot of points will be coming off the Frenchwoman’s ranking post-RG.
