I know Daniela was in much better form in Australia, but she's got experience of coming back against Kirilenko and 3 of Daniela's wins have been in 3 sets, so Daniela's got experience of being in this situation and winning against Kirilenko to draw upon.

Daniela saves two setpoints to get back to deuce then Kirilenko fires an ace then wins the set. I don't know what happened from 5-4 because Kirilenko won 8 points in a row in a couple of minutes. It's a reasonable enough draw given the field. Kirilenko's won three tournaments this year but they all had weak fields and she's generally struggled against good players and has had a lot of 1st round losses this year. I know that there were extenuating circumstances in Chennai but it demonstrates that even the best players can be totally thrashed. You just look at the thrashing Nadal gave Federer at Roland Garros or the way Shazza crushed top players at the Australian Open.

Bartoli and Cornet lost, so they're not getting any points from this tournament. But Daniela has to gain points herself. She'd have a lot more if she hadn't missed tournaments through illness and injury this year and next year, she'll have so many chances to gain points without having any to defend....
