Didn't realise but Daniela has played in Strasbourg before. She lost in the final round of qualifying in 2001, but gained entry into the main draw as a lucky loser, and she actually went on to beat PETROVA in straight-sets in the second round, before losing in the quarters.

Larsson is pretty solid on clay (she was a semi-finalist in Acapulco and Estoril), and has also had a win against Li Na this year on hardcourts. That being said, Daniela should be too tough for her, although I wouldn't be that surprised if the match went to three sets. Potential second round opponen...

A good decision to enter Strasbourg as opposed to Brussels, although less points on offer here. In previous years when Daniela has played Premier Warsaw it's been an opportunity to gain alot of points, but that's been facilitated by the fact that few of the very top players competed in Poland when t...

Schiavone takes the match, 7-5 in the third. Considering how much momentum Schiavone had going into the final set I’m quite surprised Daniela managed to hang in and take it to 5-5.

Garbin is certainly smug. Schiavone has realised she’s got to push Daniela way behind the baseline and that’s what she’s started doing. Daniela way behind the baseline, on clay, is a bad combination, and will only mean a win for Schiavone...

Stosur has won comfortably against Hercog and will meet either Daniela or Francesca in the quarter-finals.

For me there are two results today that in part illustrate the very different conditions between Madrid and Rome, with the boxed-in Madrid courts playing more like in-door courts. - Last week shot-making Safarova beat Jankovic in Madrid in three tight sets, today in Rome she was heavily beaten by th...

Radwanska, Petkovic, and the in-form Mattek-Sands have all lost today, and the bottom-half of the draw is certainly opening up. That being said Daniela's quarter is still pretty tough, with both of last year's RG finalists in her section. Hopefully Schiavone will be tight tomorrow playing in front o...

Great, loopy return on match point. Oprandi can't handle that type of ball from Daniela. First set 7-5, with Dani to serve first in second.

Mini come-back from Oprandi. Score tied at 5-5.

It makes for an interesting draw when around 5 of the top 8 seeds are quite likely to lose before the quarter-final stage (as we have seen this week in Madrid).

It might be preferable for Daniela to be unseeded and to risk the draw than to be one of the last four seedings and therefore be drawn to meet one of the very top seeds in the R32. Of course if she has a good run this week or next then she could propel herself well into the mid-20s in the rankings a...

It's not the best draw but what can really be expected here in Madrid? Daniela could have done worse. Goerges is in-form and is unseeded, Safina got a wildcard and is very dangerous, Pavlyuchenkova is another dangerous floater. To be honest drawing Date-Krumm is not too bad. She lost to clay-courter...

Four Germans through to the quarter-finals. Organisers will be pleased.
