She survived. This is about as unimpressive a win as you can have, but at this point we just have to take it and hope Vika gets lost on her way to the stadium.

She's back up to #67 with today's win (up to #67, who'd have thought we'd ever type that this year?); chance to move to around #55 with one more win.

Dani  Don't know where she's been hiding this kind of tennis. Unrecognizable from yesterday. Slovakia will play Russia in the SF. In Russia, unfortunately. The team Russia put out there this weekend, led by Makarova and including Elena Vesnina playing a crucial singles match was fairly unimpr...

This may be my internet, away from home, but I can't seem to get the live scoring to work point-by-point. In the first set, Daniela lost the first four games. She got into the set from there, holding twice and breaking to 3-4. But Tsurenko held easily to 5-3 and then broke Daniela back to win the se...

Daniela served 75% of her first serve, had seven aces against two double faults, and 58 winners against 43 unforced errors. All positive signs going into 2013.

Happy New Year everyone.

Wozniacki loses 6-2, 6-2 to Begu.

I think it's time to find out if dumping PGA golfers is the new market inefficiency.

It sounds like I'm glad I was out of the house for the first set. The end of the second half was painful, too. From 4-4, there were four consecutive break of serves. Wozniak served for the match at 5-4 but Daniela broke easily. Daniela then gave the break back at 15-40. Serving for the match again, ...

Another easy hold all of a sudden 5-4 Daniela in the second.
And Radwanska comes back with an easy hold of her own. 5-5.
Radwanska breaks at 30-40. 5-6. :(
Radwanska holds at 40-30. 6-4, 7-5.

Sigh.

Since start of 2006, all but one of the 26 grand slams have been been won by Federer, Nadal or Djokovic. In contrast, counting tomorrow's Wimbledon final, seven different women will have won the last seven Grand Slams. And since 2006, thirteen different women have won the 26 Grand Slams. Also in con...

Isner is finally over!

192 minutes, so at least he kept it short by his standards.

Elena Vesnina crushed Venus Williams, 6-3, 6-1 today to send the many-time champion out. Venus actually a series of good wins this year (Kvitova, Jankovic, Ivanovic) so while I never saw her as a contender to win, this is still a fairly big surprise.

Reasonable enough draw, but there's no way anyone can really feel confident any Daniela post-injury at this point. Recall after her injury in 2008 post-Miami, she wasn't back in top form until the fall run.
