No more Riske business with Daniela this week. 6-0 6-4 defeat. First set was as ugly as our gal is beautiful. They lost 12 out of 17 return points. And, they lost 12 of 17 service points! Mercifully this took just 20 minutes. Before this could be digested, it was 0-3 in the 2nd. Suddenly things kick...

A good win in doubles and it's nice to get one over on McHale. Oh yeah, my dear friend McHale. I was so focused on Daniela getting a doubles win that I overlooked that little piece of satisfaction

On June 30 of last year at Wimbledon, Daniela and Sam Stosur won their first round doubles over Husarova and Kania, 6-1 7-5. That was over 14 months ago, and exactly 443 days. Since then, she lost 8 consecutive first round doubles matches (3 of them by walkovers), with 8 different partners. Well, th...

If my speculation is incorrect and if it stops raining on Tokjo, Daniela will play doubles later today. It would be on court 3, first match scheduled, play starts soon after 11 AM Japan time. (That's 10 PM in New York, perfect for me.) The loss to Sena is the kind that used to be devastating. Yet it...

Between sets 2 & 3 there was a 10 minute delay. I will probably not ever learn the reason. What I do know is that Sena won 12 of the first 13 points to go up love-3, and neither player had a run even remotely approaching that at any other point in the contest. Ergo, if Daniela doesn't end up pla...

Daniela is re-entering the wonderful world of doubles this week. Alison Riske is the partner of the week. The first opponents are McHale and Moore.

There was a long rain delay yesterday, followed by a huge gag job in the first match by the eventual loser that caused a 1st set tiebreaker and a longer match than it should have been. I well remember when such events caused considerable consternation here in the Forum, especially if Daniela lost. N...

#557! I don't know what went wrong for Dani in the 2nd set, but she certainly recovered quite well. Her service numbers were pretty good, and my guess is that her opponent was not a mad bomber. Onward!

Dani is playing again! She has made it clear that she's in Tokyo. It will be the lesser Tokyo tourney that has qualies this weekend. Daniela will go up against Jennifer Brady. Her match is the fourth one on the main court tomorrow. Play starts at 11 AM Tokyo time.

I was in an airport last night and a TV was showing the US Open. I kept trying not to look at it. Mournful.

From what I can gather, Daniela is in New York these days. I have to figure that it's for some lucrative appearance or something like that, not to play. She hasn't done mixed in several years, so if she is playing mixed this year I would be shocked. Pleasantly, of course.

I wondered why the scores weren't changing for 10 minutes in the 3rd set. After seeing the pictures of Daniela pumping iron, I got excited when she had 2 aces early on and was 12-14 winning points on first serve in. But that went pfft. It always hurts when our gal loses. At this stage, though, with ...

Daniela is in the 3rd match on the grandstand court, with play beginning shortly after 10:00 AM, Eastern Daylight Time. (Geez, it feels good to type that!) Her opponent is Flipkens.
