Daniela's gained plenty of points in the past fortnight, and the coming fortnight has the same potential. No points to defend in Melbourne, and with the way Daniela's playing she can certainly win a few rounds here. Alot depends on the draw, but if she gets somewhat lucky, as she did in Brisbane and...

Sydney is now a test to see how well (and quickly) Daniela rebounds from the Brisbane final. She's been given a very favourable draw in facing Vinci in the opening round, and it turns out it's also the player just above her in the acceptance list, so a chance to score a win against a similarly ranke...

Kanepi played great tennis (certainly top-10 level). It will be interesting to see how she progresses this year. Kvitova won Brisbane by convincingly beating Petkovic last year and went on to finish the year ranked number 2. Daniela had some lucky breaks this week, and if Serena and Kim had been fit...

Daniela has certainly got lucky this week with the draw, but at the same time she has produced some decent tennis and it's perhaps about time a draw went totally in her favour. Kanepi is currently a set and a break up against Schiavone, so a Daniela - Kaia final seems likely.

It's bad luck for Serena, and it happened during the last game of her match. Still, Daniela gets a walkover (her first in a while, as eddy commented), and can prepare well for her semi-final on Friday against, most likely, the defending Australian Open champion. Good for Daniela's ranking that Brisb...

Certainly a top-heavy draw. Daniela's not come out too badly though. Cibulkova is beatable on this surface, then Czink or a qualifier potentially in round 2.

Very tough field for the first week of the year, although made slightly less daunting a few days ago with Sharapova's withdrawal. The focus of the week will no doubt be on grand slam champion Stosur and the return of both Clijsters and Williams. A quarter-final showing here would be a solid start fo...

Darn it I missed this bonus match! What a bizarre situation. By agreeing to play does that mean daniela gets 4th place points? If she had won would she have gotten 3rd place points?! How confusing! I would imagine Lisicki will still get her fourth place points. Daniela probably just stepped in to g...

What a grotesque farce this tournament has turned out to be. Agreed. 8 players in a knock-out tournament doesn't really work. A round-robin format might be better. Obviously an overall total of 15 matches per tournament compared to 8 matches at present is a big difference, but it could be ta...

Daniela can beat any of the seeds on a good day; in fact she can beat anyone in the field on a good day. Obviously Vinci would be a nice opener. Bartoli has finished the year very strongly, and beat Azarenka convincingly in Istanbul. Lisicki is always tricky for Daniela, and Peng has been consistent...

Kvitova is likely to be Daniela's toughest opponent in the tournament but her post-Wimbledon form hasn't been great and Daniela was unlucky against Kvitova at Eastbourne. The winner of this match has an excellent chance of winning the tournament. For me it seems like one of those tournaments that J...

Daniela has drawn a qualifier in the opening round, and the second round seed is Chinese number 2 Peng Shuai (although she has a tough opener in Flavia Pennetta, who beat her in New York). Daniela's quarter: WOZNIACKI [1] v Hradecka Medina Garrigues v Gajdosova Kanepi v S Zheng [WC] Begu v LISICKI [...
