Question for those who watched: given that there was rain in the forecast, why wasn't the roof closed from the get go? I can only go by baseball here in the US where if there is any chance of rain, the roof is always closed for the game. And baseball plays through light rain much more so than tennis...

Daniela's always beaten Zheng fairly easily in the past and Zheng's form this year has been pretty modest. The main concern is how Daniela's shoulder is and how much Birmingham's taken out of her. Zheng had to play two matches today so she won't be particularly fresh but she doesn't have to travel ...

Kleybanova withdrew whose ranked higher than daniela but venus will surely get bumped up above daniela. Haven't quite worked out all the points but if daniela wins the tournament I think she goes up to 24 at the venus would move her down to 25 so I don't think it's going to matter. I may be wrong t...

One thing to keep in mind is that two more wins would move Daniela up to 24th in the WTA rankings which would keep her away from a top eight seed in Wimbledon, at least until the round of 16.

Nice win today. Up next is Errani who came back from 5-0 down in the third set against McHale. Too bad the match is not tomorrow since Daniela would have a substantial conditioning edge.
