Good to hear about Lindsay. Some idiot on another board said that Lindsay was bagging on Daniela, calling her career a disappointment and that she wasn't a top player. It would be unlike Lindsay to be so cruel. |

Never said you couldn't admire her beauty Jonathan! For me she is always most beautiful on the tennis court and her graceful game is a large part of that. Daniela at the net makes benji a happy boy. Bammer is a grinder extraordinaire so Daniela is going to have to be patient tonight. on the plus sid... |

Andy with his heckles raised makes for great television.
Can't believe the absolute demolition job Verdasco did on Gasquet. That forehand is a frighteningly powerful shot, and he doesn't miss at all these days. |

Is it surprising? Daniela often complained about it. She wasn't accompanied by any coach during US Open series 2007 for example.I've been badly informed then. I thought Eduardo Nicholas was with her for that stretch of the season. No wonder she played so poorly! |

It's just that's I'm always staring at Daniela's beauty rather than her playing style.I suppose we're all guilty of that from time to time! |

If we're really lucky,we can get to watch Dahveed destroy Nadal again with his sublime BH,just as in Paris and Madrid 2007.
Daniela has a lovely Bh as well. Does it provide similar inspiration? |

They don't call him "Crazy Dani" for nothing! Always good to see Roddick letting loose with the expletives as well. |

DANIELA HANTUCHOVA: You know, I have been on the tour for 10 years, so I do really know what I want.I do love Daniela's particular brand of sarcasm. She's probably been waiting for months to smack down that demeaning line of questioning! |

I forgot to mention one obvious reason why Daniela left Gimenez. He didn't want to travel with her. This surprises me.He did after all travel to Australia,Indian Wells and Beijing with her last year. You could argue that ballbashing brought her success in 2002.Not what I remember from that year at all. She approached the net far more regularly than she does know and even threw in the occasion serve-volley. Besides what Daniela does can't be described as ball-bashing,it's all beautiful timing and technique!I think it has more to do with confidence. Until that match against Hingis in Doha Daniela didn't show anything special despite being with Gimenez for some time already.Don't know about this. Good things were happening in the fall of 2006(excellent indoor season),and would have been even better if she hadn't become a complete headcase when it came to serving out sets in the US hardcourt series. This is where we should agree to disagree.I meant in comparison to what followed in the next few years.
BTW,Safin leaving the tour to go climbing mountains is the funniest thing he's ever done, and that's saying something! |

Nalby returns from a nasty illness to beat Kendrick 6-4 6-4. Hope he can do well here.
Interestingly he's also playing doubles with Del Potro as well. Good thinking by the Davis Cup captain, getting them to bury the hatchet. |

As always,I enjoy these discussions Martin! So, you see that not everything was perfect in the academy. I was criticizing Panichi and his team here. Daniela herself has said her coach(Gimenez) warned her of the dangers of too packed a schedule and too quick a return from a bad injury. He was right,y... |

Good points Martin. I offer the following rejoinders: 1. The players today hardly have more weapons,it's all about ball-bashing. Read Steve Tignor's account of how little practise the women put into their volleying at tennis.com if you don't believe me. Daniela is one of the few players capable of p... |

Yeah I certainly don't agree with her. The tennis that Angel taught her was good enough to get her back into the top 10 and winning tournaments again, which many people thought wouldn't happen. It was such a thrill to watch her play with comparitively good footwork and dramatically reduced numbers of... |

On another note, it is now confirmed that Daniela ended her cooperation with Portas and is now working with Hogstedt. She felt that she needed someone more experienced to coach her, because she still has a lot of things to learn. After Miami Daniela will decide whether to continue with him or not. ... |

I feel the only appropriate reaction is to quote Barney Gumble of the Simpsons:
"Uh-oh,my heart just stopped......Ah,there it goes!"
Seriously,I love it when Daniela wins matches like this, never a dull moment with Miss Hantuchova! |
