Excellent Daniela! 2nd round Stosur/Schiavone will be a great test regardless who she plays

More 1st serves in the first set would have made it easier! Nice streak of 4 games from 6-5 up in the 1st set to 3-0.

A final thought on Brisbane, or reason #4444 why we can't resist rooting for Daniela: In this tourney, she played 9 completed sets, winning 4, losing 5. Has anyone in the history of tennis lost more sets than they won in a tourney and yet participated in the final!? :!:

Now, here's reason #4445: I have made my feelings known before about Vinci and her following the Caroline/Hingis method of puffing up her points. Well, didn't Dani just tub-thump her butt or what!! It was ludicrous that she had to be strung out till the last minute to get the wild card because Vinci was one spot ahead of her in the rankings. Not anymore! Daniela showed that Roberta is far from in-Vinci-ble!

Real good win for Daniela here. Honestly, if you take out the two withdrawals, her performance in Brisbane was not super-impressive. So it's good for her to come out and beat a top-30 player in straight sets.

It will be Schiavone up next as she beat Stosur in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Franny is no push over, but she's a better opponent for Daniela than Stosur. So more good news with the draw.

Yeah really Good News for the draw but bad for us it will be on Court 5.. Against stosur it would have been on Center Court and on tv

Completely forgot about the match! It's 5-5 with Schiavone serving first. One break apiece so far, Schiavone led 4-2:

5-5: 15-15, 15-30 (df #4 for Fran), 15-40, Break

6-5: 15-0, 30-0, 40-0, 7-5.
Daniela wins first set 7-5

0-0: 15-0, BP, deuce, BP, deuce, BP, deuce, BP, deuce, BP, 0-1.
1-0: 0-15, 15-15, 15-30, 15-40, 30-40, 1-1.
1-1: Daniela saved 2 GPs and converted her first BP. 2-1.
2-1: Game started after a long delay - Daniela closed it a 40-15 with an ace.
3-1: Daniela rallied back from 40-0 down to break again.
4-1: Three more aces and it's 5-1. Wow.
5-1: She closed it out on her second BP. Very impressive win.
Daniela wins first set 7-5, 6-1

Daniela was 2-4 down in 1st set but turned it round to win first set 7-5!

Long way to go though..Schiavone is so mentally tough so will be very impressive if Daniela can come through this one.

Daniela breaks in opening game of 2nd set on her 5th break point chance, got there! 7-5 1-0 and serving, consolidate Daniela!

Daniela's barely getting a 1st serve in only 37%, if she can only make that higher..Schiavone breaks back

Daniela breaks Schiavone again! 2-1! Comon JUST HOLD NOW!

Just remembered these two played doubles together last week lol!

Hmmm seems like medical timeout...don't know who for...

7-5 3-1 Daniela with ace no.3!

4-1 Daniela!!!!

7-5 5-1 ace no.4 and no.5!!!!!!

great job so far!

i wanted to follow the sb but fall asleep, woke up when she has won the 1st set

2nd set
1-0. saves a GP, didn't convert 4 BP's in a row but finally got the break with the 5th BP
1-1. daniela saves 1 BP, but got broken to 30. why she has almost no 1st serves ?!?
2-1. saves 3 GPs for schiavone and got the break again

come on!!! please stay strong!!
long break after the 2-1... hopefully no medical timeout...
btw: kuznetsova has retired due to heat illness. so it seems to be very hot outside. hope daniela can take this in 2 sets

3-1. daniela holds to 15 with her 2nd ace
4-1. came back from 0-40 down to deuce, GP, deuce, BP, deuce, BP and break for daniela!! wow!
5-1. holds to 15!! ace no 3 and 4 and 5!! great!
