She also has other activities which she considered to realize the ambition to get her first title to follow the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions. I also drink lots of water, because it is so important for my skin is always exposed to the sun when playing and traveling, " said Hantuchova.

Hlavackova interviews Hantuchova: Men deserve more money

We see the courts, changing rooms, a restaurant in the hotel. And now another way: sometimes from colleagues surprise someone with a recorder in hand with the following questions. Like Daniela Hantuchova (28). Faster and more interesting conversation I have from her position of "playing reporter" still not done, Daniela goes on the court and off to the point.

24 October 2011

Which player / toys you'd like shipwrecked on a desert island? And with whom would you definitely not want to fail?
"I want to fail with Roger Federer. I took advantage of it and worn thin some of his techniques and skills on the court. I impressed by the personality and has respect for everyone else. In my eyes it is the champion on the court and outside court. And who would not want to fail ...? Nobody comes to mind. "

What you bought for the first decent prize money?
"That I can not remember, but I guess I did more joy to someone else because gifts to others far better than anything I have bought myself."

What do you say that in tournaments in Miami and Indian Wells winner earned more than men's singles champion?
"I did not perceive too, so you do not even think about. But in terms of prize money at Grand Slam, I am for the men had more money. For matches in three sets winning them deserves. "

What is your favorite tournament and why?
"Definitely Indian Wells. Twice I had won, there is great peace of mind, I can go play golf, relax and concentrate on tennis. "

Your worst game of life?
"Any such rapid discharge of the head." (Smiling) :)

You have a ritual or a talisman, without which neobejdeš?
"I'm not superstitious, so wear talismans with them. As for rituals, I hold the same warm-up before the game and listen to your favorite music. "

What do you think the on court coaching on WTA tournaments?
"I've always taken the view that man must help himself on the court and have their own head, but once in a hundred or a board game is fine. Coaches do just sees things that do not see the player on the court. "

Which sport prefer to watch as a spectator? Attracted to you, if you played tennis?
"I like to watch golf, hockey, basketball, figure skating. And if I did not play tennis, I think I skied. It is the only sport that I do more than tennis. I was born in the mountains, Ski three years. But lured by me and golf. "

Can you cook? And that you prepare your food the most?
"More baking than cooking, I enjoy it much more. When I'm home, I try to learn something from my mother, but after a day of training on my usually very little energy left. I learned parene cakes (fruit dumplings - ed.) And I'll have tiramisu. "

Do you have a dream?
"Very much. I think this is the life's nice when one can still dream about something. But nothing specific I do not want to mention, then I would not dream. "

Experience or a moment you will never forget?
"I remember when his brother finished high school, I was very much proud of him, it was during the French Open 2002 and I experienced a lot there. Never forget even for their first title in the finals at Indian Wells 2002 I beat Martina Hingis. "

Are you a fan of social networking?
"Absolutely not. I have a facebook, but de facto do not use it. I guess I'm from the older generation and this is not me too ... "

Do you like tattoos, piercings and other body beautification? Have you tried something like that?
"It depends what the tattoo and on whom. If it is not too strong, the men can be nice. There are times when I think about something similar, but when I introduce myself for thirty years, so I'm just over it. "(Smiles) :)

Your greatest passion, a hobby?
"All sports, be it golf, skiing or surfing, which fascinated me lately. When I first tried, sometimes I could hardly back to the courts. "

PLAYERS GET BUSY AT BALI

31 Oct 2011 | Road To Bali

When a tournament is held at a beautiful beach resort, what better way to celebrate than trying a little beach tennis. And that is what Daniela Hantuchova and Peng Shuai did at the Westin Resort, Nusa Dua in Bali, site of the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions.

They teamed up against Indonesia’s former Wimbledon and French Open junior champion and 2001 Bali winner Angelique Widjaja and Commonwealth Bank Deputy President Director for Indonesia Andriaan Laoh, with the pros speeding to a 21-4 victory.

Play at the $600,000 end-of-season event, featuring six players who have won at least one International series event plus two wild cards, begins on Thursday with defending champion Ana Ivanovic, former finalist Marion Bartoli, Sabine Lisicki, Roberta Vinci, Anabel Medina Garrigues and Nadia Petrova as well as Hantuchova and Peng Shuai taking part in a straight knockout format.

Bartoli has arrived from the WTA Championships in Istanbul, where she played one match as a replacement for the injured Maria Sharapova and defeated Victoria Azarenka. From Istanbul to Bali was a long trip to make, but definitely worthwhile for the French world number nine.

"I think it's nice to finish the season there," she said before leaving Turkey. "It really feels like paradise. You have the white sand beaches and very sunny. So it's a great place to be for the last tournament of the season."

While Daniela Hantuchova and Peng Shuai tried their hand at a different kind of tennis, Sabine Lisicki tackled something entirely different from tennis.

When she was in Bali two years ago Sabine enjoyed a visit to Jenggala, a company that produces ceramics and conducts classes where people can learn to make and paint pots and various other items. While she was there she produced a plate that was later sold by auction for $1000. The money went towards the tournament’s charity, the Smile Foundation, that finances surgery for children born with facial defects.

The German was looking forward to making a return visit and, like before, she was joined by her mother Elizabeth, who is in fact a ceramics artist. After moulding two pots, Sabine picked up the paintbrush and decorated a dish, while her mother sat beside her painting a horse.

"I don’t really get a chance to do it because we are never home," said Sabine, "but I really enjoy painting because it is so relaxing and a way to get away from the tennis for a while. After the season is over this week I will definitely spend some time painting."

DANIELA HANTUCHOVA
22 Oct 2011 | English, Road To Bali

Coming to the paradise isle of Bali has long been a priority for Daniela Hantuchova. She first played here in 2006, and although she lost in the opening round that didn’t discourage her and when she returned in 2007 she went all the way to the final before falling to former world number one Lindsay Davenport. She enjoyed a successful campaign the next year too, reaching the semi-finals before losing out to Tamira Paszek.

Then the formula changed and players had to qualify to play the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions by winning an International Series event. Daniela fell short in 2009, but she came so close in 2010 by reaching the final in Monterrey that she was given a wild card and returned to Bali for the fourth time. This year, though, she left nothing to chance and quickly put her herself among the contenders by winning the title in Pattaya in February.

“It was wonderful. We had such a great time,” she said of that initial visit to Bali, even though it resulted in a frustrating first round defeat at the hands of Melinda Czink. “It was my first time there and I just couldn’t believe how wonderful the place is, and especially the people were incredibly friendly. I loved every second of it.”

Daniela has without doubt been one of the most popular and charismatic players of the WTA Tour over the past decade. Known as one of the friendliest players in the locker room, she is much more than ‘only’ a tennis player. She is in high demand for fashion shoots, including here in Bali, and she has appeared in numerous fashion magazines, including Vogue.

She was featured in the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition alongside Maria Kirilenko and Tatiana Golovin in a pictorial entitled Volley of the Dolls, and she is such a star that she has been included in video games on several occasions. She is featured in Top Spin for both the Xbox and Play Station 2, Smash Court Tennis Pro Tournament 2, Roland Garros 2005 and Virtua Tennis 3. She is also a playable character in Virtua Tennis 2009.

So what keeps a player such as Daniela at the top of the game for so long? Some of the answers can be found in replies to questions posed to her on her website, danielahantuchova.com - one of the best player websites around.

“My diet is very important to me,” she says. “I do not take any special supplements, but I make sure I eat a clean healthy diet. I make sure I take in enough carbohydrates, protein and the right type of good fats to sustain my energy. Chicken, turkey, fish and other lean cuts of meat are good proteins to eat. One important thing to remember is that it is very important to eat within 30 minutes after a hard workout!

“To relax after a long tournament or a match, the first thing I do is make sure I feed my body with clean healthy food to recover. Then to relax, I will make sure I take care of my body with a massage and a stretch. I make sure I drink plenty of water and hydrate a lot because it's very important for the skin, since I'm always in the sun while playing and travelling so much.

“I also make sure I sleep a lot because it's the best way to recover, not only for body but mind as well. I like to do other sports too and yoga, but most importantly if you feel good about yourself and happy inside you don't need to use cosmetic products.”
It is also important to turn your mind off of tennis as much as possible, and not let your job consume your life. The fashion shoots help with that, but there are other ways that Daniela finds to relax. Like in the kitchen.

“I love cooking and I'm getting into it more and more,” she said. “It's really fun to do it for your friends and family and afterwards see how much they enjoy it. When I cook I get totally into it and forget everything else, so it's really becoming my hobby. Plus, because I've been travelling all the time since I was very young, it is nice to have home-made cooked meals and just stay in and enjoy it at home with everybody. Also I would love to have a restaurant one day but that's far ahead in the future.”

As well as a talent for tennis, Daniela excelled as a classical pianist when she was young and was good enough to perform in public. That was an intimidating experience, but it probably helped her in later years when she had to appear on Centre Court in front of thousands of spectators and millions more watching her every move on tv.

“I did some pretty big concerts, and I can tell you I’ve never, ever been so nervous in my life,” she said. “When I was about 13, 14, a couple of hundred at least would be watching, maybe a thousand. It was scary stuff, but it prepared me well for the tennis circuit so it was good.

“I really enjoyed playing. It was very difficult time-wise because I had my school in the morning, tennis practise, then piano, then tennis again and then study in the evening. So I was finishing my day at 11, 11.30. Every day was like that from eight o’clock in the morning, and I loved it because there wasn’t any one second I had some free time. I couldn’t understand the kids when they were saying they were so bored. I never knew anything like that.”

As well as being a talented pianist and an up-and-coming tennis star, Daniela was also a very bright student. She qualified for university, and had to make a decision about which path her life would take. A big responsibility, and not an easy one to make.

“Yes, it was a really tough one because after finishing high school I thought for sure I was going to continue, and I had some really good offers and studying always felt to me like it was part of my life. Especially for my parents it had been very important too, because with tennis you never know so you always have to have another option for if something happens to you. So it was kind of a tough one, but I knew if I wanted to do this (tennis) properly there wouldn’t be enough time for me to do both.”

She obviously made the right decision. She’s won four singles titles and nine in doubles, been ranked as high as five in the world in both disciplines, and she’s earned nearly $8 million in prize money. She’s been in the semi-finals of the Australian Open and the quarter-finals at both Wimbledon and the US Open. And when she won the mixed doubles title at Roland Garros in 2005 with Fabrice Santoro over opponents Martina Navratilova and Leander Paes she became only the fifth woman to win a mixed doubles title at all four Grand Slams.

Now she’s back at one of her favourite events to try and add to her glittering achievements.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Won Pattaya in 2011, Indian Wells and Linz in 2007 and Indian Wells in 2002. Runner-up in Birmingham in 2011, Monterrey in 2010, Bali and Luxembourg in 2007, Zurich in 2006, Los Angeles in 2005, Eastbourne in 2004 and Filderstadt in 2002. DH: This exercise you can do forever. Even people who are aged 80 years at the club could melalukannya the double game and if I do not play tennis I would dream of joining a club and continue playing. Tennis is a social sport, it's good exercise. Not because I am a tennis player, but I always thought that this is a fun sport.

d: Does that mean you will play tennis until old age?
DH: I'm not saying that. I probably will not keep playing tennis when it retires. But at age 50 or 60 you can re-take the racquet and start playing again.

d: When did you start playing tennis?
DH: When I was 5 years

d: What's your target in 2012?
DH: Of course back into the top 10. I think it's time I melaklukan it again.

d: Won the Grand Slam?
DH: Of course, but it's not the job can be done overnight. it's a long journey and it took hard work and I am ready to do what it takes to achieve it. Sometimes you also need a little luck, but sya think it comes along with the professionalism and coupled with providing the best in every game. After that we'll see what happens then.

DH: skiing, golf, walking

d: How often do you do these activities?
DH: Golf quite often, when I had a chance of course. But it must continue to move around (the world) makes me not have much time to do so. If you ski long enough I did not do it, but I love it. And if I do not play tennis I would definitely do it. it's a fun sport.

DH: Roger Federer hahahahahaha .... you know he's won so many Grand Slam titles and world number one and nobody can do better than him. For that reason Federer at the top.
Personally he was also very down to earth, simple person and I really admire.
