We'll see how Daniela does here. She doesn't have any points to defend until Roland Garros while quite a few of the players above her have a lot of points to defend here and in Rome, so any sort of run in Madrid should get her up the rankings and hopefully secure a seeding for Roland Garros.

Hopefully, Daniela's fit and healthy and she's had the chance to rest and prepare because recent tournaments have been tough on her. She played pretty well in Stuttgart which should give her some confidence going in and a decent draw would be nice.

Yes these next two tournaments Madrid and Rome are so important to get her ranking up. She only needs one really good tournament at Premier Mandatory level and she's right back up there!

Draw just been released and it's horrid

1R Date Krumm
2R Stosur/Dulko

Can't believe she's drawing the same people again!

the whole draw:

Well, hope Daniela can make it through the Kimiko... And we will see in the next round. Again Stosur. It would be nice if Daniela can win this one. It was very close last time... actually last week :) So come on Daniela. It's there for the taking this time!

:)

Edit:
eddy: You have overtaken my post :D

Well, I hope Daniela can make it this time... The draw is not an easy road again like you said, but we cant chose :(

Sorry Marek! I'm pretty pissed about this...obviously Date Krumm is no pushover but to get Stosur early on again is really tough luck. Even if she was to get past that she has potentially Pavyluchenkova waiting...there are so many points on offer at this tournament we have to hope that the draw opens up and that Daniela takes advantage...

One glimmer of hope is that the clay outdoor season has just started so players will definitely be finding their feet...and clay does even out the playing field somewhat. I see Kanepi, Bartoli, Li, Peer, Schiavone Sharapova all losing early in either 1st or 2nd rounds.

On a side-note she's playing doubles with Aga again and they have tough 1st rounder against Azarenka/Kirilenko

It was important that Daniela beat Date-Krumm in Pattaya as she'd lost the three previous matches so that was a big psychological boost as she knows that she can beat Date-Krumm.
Date-Krumm's form since Pattaya hasn't been great although most of her losses have been to good players. She lost to Bartoli in Dubai and Ivanovic at Indian Wells and Miami which aren't bad losses although Date-Krumm was winning matches like that last year. She also lost to Kremer in Kuala Lumpur and Garcia Vidagany in Stuttgart and they were both ranked outside the top 150. Date-Krumm's not played a lot on clay during her comeback. She did beat Safina at Roland Garros last year.
It's not easy but it's better than it could have been. Daniela will have to play well and expect a tough match.

It's a tough opener in the doubles as Azarenka and Kirilenko are a good team and were Australian Open finalists this year. I wonder what sort of clues Daniela picked up in Charleston.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

Daniela is unseeded so Date-Krumm is really quite the good draw considering she could have drawn a top, top player. As Chugwit pointed out, Date-Krumm has had middling results this year and the fact is, everyone gets old at some point.

It's not the best draw but what can really be expected here in Madrid? Daniela could have done worse. Goerges is in-form and is unseeded, Safina got a wildcard and is very dangerous, Pavlyuchenkova is another dangerous floater. To be honest drawing Date-Krumm is not too bad. She lost to clay-courter Dulko this past week in straight sets, so isn't coming into this event with great results behind her, whereas Daniela has had a reasonable start to the clay-court season, and had chances to beat French Open finalist Stosur in Stuttgart.

Good start 4-1 up..and now 6-3 Daniela. 30 points to 25 points. Keep it up Daniela.

Very close. Daniela only had one break point in the set and took it! Kimiko had no break points.

Also Sharapova is getting smashed by young gun left hander Rus. She's hot. ;)
