Not the best, but definitely not the worst as she could drawn Williams, Clijsters or Wozniacki. More importantly, there are no dangerous unseeded players between her and the third round:

[9] LI, Na CHN v ARVIDSSON, Sofia SWE
RODINA, Evgeniya RUS v [WC] ROGOWSKA, Olivia AUS
ONDRASKOVA, Zuzana CZE v [WC] DOKIC, Jelena AUS
ZAHLAVOVA STRYCOVA, Barbora CZE v [17] REZAI, Aravane FRA

[28] HANTUCHOVA, Daniela SVK v KULIKOVA, Regina RUS
SPREM, Karolina CRO v SCHEEPERS, Chanelle RSA
MAYR-ACHLEITNER, Patricia AUT v HLAVACKOVA, Andrea CZE
[Q] QUALIFIER v [8] AZARENKA, Victoria BLR

Providing she's fit it's actually a pretty darn good draw. If she can get to 3rd round then she could take vika out. Would be nice for dani vs li rematch and for dani to get revenge. But first she gotta get there. Don't know much about kulilova apart her awesome quarter final run in dubai last year where she beat kirilenko and kuzzy. She's definitely a fighter so if daniela's gotta really focus in round one.

It's a good draw but what really matters is Daniela's health. If she is fit, she will not have problems reaching third round. We'll see....

I don't really think she is able to take Azarenka out right now...

But like THOMAS said... If Daniela is healthy, she won't have troubles to get in 3R and we will see what happens then. :)

Good luck!

It's a decent enough draw. A lot depends on Daniela's health and fitness because she's not really fully fit and she's not had a full warm-up so it's difficult to know what level her form is. The achilles injury, even if she's recovered from it, would have truncated her training and warm-up for this. Kulikova had a few good wins in Dubai last year, like eddy said, and she beat Kleybanova at Wimbledon in 2009 but she hasn't done too much else. If Daniela's anywhere near her best she should win.

Sprem did beat Daniela at Amelia Island just before Daniela went out injured with her stress fracture, so Sprem can beat an unfit Daniela, but a healthy Daniela should have too much for Sprem. Daniela thrashed Scheepers in Seoul in 2009 and Scheepers hasn't beaten any good players since, except perhaps Dulko.

The first couple of rounds are pretty reasonable but Azarenka will be very tough in the third round. Hopefully Daniela's fit because if she is, she should get through the first couple of rounds, but any opponent has to be respected and she has to beat Kulikova. I'll feel a lot better with Daniela through the first round.

Liptak, "Hantuchova has acceptable ticket"
Reuters, 01/14/2011 16:22, Tennis, Talk (0)

Daniela Hantuchova is acceptable rival in the 1st round of the Australian Open, thinks her coach Matt Liptak.
Coach Slovakian tennis player Daniela Hantuchova expressed satisfaction by lot Australian Open, which in its first round of awarding a rival Russia Regina Kulikovovú. Matej Liptak believes his zverenka until the early struggles in Melbourne fully recovers from injury and left Achilles tendon in the season opening Grand Slam will be able to give full power.

"I think Daniela is quite acceptable lot. Kulikovová a toy that he has made quite a decent scalps when Vychytil day, can be dangerous. I believe that Daniela will be able to make outright performance, the leg will be fine and that build on their experience. It is important to any as soon as got into the rhythm of wrestling due to the fact that the injury could not have played many matches," said Liptak. Hantuchova withdrew because of injury to participate in the WTA tournament in Brisbane, Sydney, losing in the first round with the Spaniard Martinez Sanchez.
