Nestor, Hantuchova withdraw from mixed double

Daniel Nestor of Toronto, a self-_proclaimed “terrible” mixed-doubles player, may finally have found the right partner to go deep into a tournament for the first time since he won the Australian Open mixed with Elena Likhovtseva back in 2007.

He picked Daniela Hantuchova, who owns a mixed doubles Grand Slam. And there’s the Dan & Dani thing; it all just fit. Unfortunately, Hantuchova pulled out of their second-round match Monday because of illness. Nestor made the quarter-finals of the mixed in Australia last year with Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que.

Chinese tennis fans must be loving this AO. A great effort from both Li and Zheng to make the semi-finals in the same slam. I definately think Chinese tennis will have a similar depth to Russian tennis in five years time.
I can't see Li beating Serena (particularly since Li is playing in her first ever slam semi and Serena had a bit of a scare today and as a result will surely up her game for the last couple of matches). Zheng on the other hand, could cause an 'upset' in beating Henin. She has been in a slam semi before (losing only to Serena), and Henin has had tough matches this tournament and may well be a little jaded. In saying that, Henin is still far more experienced and that could well pull her through (even if she has an off day). Who knows, it could be an all-Chinese final, but I think it'll be Serena versus Justine (with maybe an outside chance of Zheng making history in becoming the first grand slam finalist from China).

There does appear to be a bug going around the AO. Both Djokovic and Kubot went down with an upset stomach-I just hope Daniela is feeling OK.

By the way, Nestor reached the finals of the men's doubles today. Good for him.

Hard luck Justine-keep working on that serve because it let you down badly in the key moments. :(

Congratulations Serena.
