We'll see how Daniela does here. The fact that Daniela's playing at a small tournament like this shows how much Daniela loves to play and compete. It's also important for Daniela to get her ranking up so that she can get into qualifying for Roland Garros and Wimbledon and get back onto the main tour.

The draw's out and Daniela's not in it. I don't know why.

I imagine you are taking that from the ITF site, which still shows gaps in the draw and really is a hot mess POS site. I'll give it a little more time. But we have never been totally sure about what Daniela is up to.

The gaps in the draw are for qualifiers, Alex. We just know that Daniela's not in the draw. She's still in the draw for Midland next week.

That solves it, Chungwit. Daniela could not resist the lures contained in the burgeoning metropolis that is Midland, Michigan and went there early!

There have been a lot of withdrawals from Midland according to the ITF site, like Bellis, Van Uytvanck and Perreira, so it's not as though Daniela's the only withdrawal. She was originally in qualifying but if she'd played she'd have been directly into the main draw. I don't know when Daniela will play competitively again. She's got the exhibition in the Cayman Islands in a few weeks and she mentioned being ready for Indian Wells. Midland is the biggest ITF right now and most of the other one for the next few month are very small tournaments, mostly $15,000. Her ranking isn't high enough for anything on the main tour. I just don't know how healthy Daniela is or what her plans are. She's only played the Australian Open qualifying since withdrawing from Taiwan but she was reasonably competitive against Vikhlyantseva who won all of her other matches more quickly than against Daniela. Daniela's also had recent wins against players who have done well this month, like Davis who won in Auckland or Brady who got to the fourth round in Melbourne, so she can still play at a decent level.
