I watched the match...Daniela played quite well but in the first set that first game proved crucial. The first serve is hit and miss but definitely seems more powerful since several years. Sam is a really tough competitor when she's playing well and she really did play well. A good week for Daniela but despite the 3 wins in qualifying is now needing a 3rd or 4th round run in Melbourne to avoid being out of the top 100 very soon. I just hope her first round is a winnable match... |

It would have been fantastic if Daniela could have won this but Stosur was too strong, especially on serve. Stosur breaking in the first game of each set was crucial as Daniela was behind right away and with Stosur serving so well it was difficult for Daniela to get back into the match although she did compete well in the first set. Who knows what could have happened if Daniela had held and then broken at the start of the match, after that she hardly made any impact on Stosur's serve. This week can give her a lot of confidence as she had three straight sets wins against players around her in the rankings so she can go into the Australian Open with a some momentum. |

The first serve is hit and miss but definitely seems more powerful since several years. That is the most encouraging thing I have heard about Daniela in a long, long time! Thanks for the report, eddy. |
