That ball Daniela did not play was such a silly decision... she could have gone for 40-40, instead she gave up the game. Now saving to stay in the match 4-5

Well, lost the tiebreak 7-5 and the match... very frustrating, she fought until the end, but as usual, too many silly errors against a very solid opponent.

Don't know how this year will go, to be honest.

This is disappointing. I missed the first set but Daniela's first service game was a really long one which lasted for ten minutes and she got broken which gave Bencic momentum for the rest of the set. Daniela eventually broke Bencic in the first game of the second set on her 6th BP but she got broken right back and the rest of the set went on serve. Daniela played some really good tennis and made some great shots in the second set but she was also making errors while Bencic was solid. Daniela got into a big hole in the tiebreak at 2-5 down and although she got back to 5-5, she made errors on the last two point of the match.

Daniela looked jaded today and it does seem that the tough matches she had in Pattaya and Doha have taken a lot out of her and it seems she's not really recovered from that.

Hopefully Daniela can have a good run on the doubles.

She does look jaded. Even when she won some amazing points today she didn't celebrate so much...

I think Pattaya and Dubai did take it out of her.

She should rest until maybe qualifying in Stuttgart...although her Charleston and Marrakech points will come off..so probably back down to no 70 :s

Doubles, anyone? :(

Immensely frustrating that it never works out for Daniela, at least since 2007, when she plays here in America. I need to help fix that. She is 3-0, with her only lifetime double bagel, in front of these eyes. My wife and I had bantered about going to Cincinnatti, but now we're thinking about the Bank of the West classic in early August, if Dani's playing there. See what I can do, guys. "Cause what started out so promising this year is starting to slide down a slippery slope.

Let's Go, Daniela!

And it must be noted that Daniela's 0-2 since that friggin' photo with that alleged rock star was made public. :x

Daniela won as many matches here as Shazza. If you'd told me that before the tournament I'd have been quite pleased and taken it, maybe not so much now.

I've got to say that Gavrilova played very well though. Maybe it's just me but she reminds me of Antonio Cassano.

By now you well know that I give Daniela every benefit of the doubt. But I don't know about the notion that she hasn't recovered from Pattaya/ Dubai. Since losing to Halep in Dubai on Feb. 17, Dani had played three maches between that day and this Wednesday, a period of 36 days. I'd like to think that in a 36 day stretch, our gal was able to get some rest. Let me know if I'm off base on this.

Anyone know what Bencic and Daniela said to each other at the net? Was in Slovak I think and they both laughed.

Alex - I see your point so maybe her injury in Acupuloco set Daniela back a bit..? I think the biggest difference between Pattaya and IW/Miami is Daniela is missing so much more and seems to miss big...also her serve is not as penetrative. Maybe due to the slower courts...

Has she entered Charleston?

Tatjana Maria (nee Malek) beat Bouchard so she's up next for Bencic. The draw really has opened up and this was such a good opportunity for Daniela because Dellacqua and Maria are players I'm sure she'd beat.

We have to remember that Daniela is almost 32 so tough matches will take more out of her physically, especially given the physical intensity of the matches in Pattaya and Doha. It would exacerbate any physical problems Daniela had and she's had foot, knee, back and shoulder problems in recent years. Daniela's results after she won Birmingham after similarly tough matches weren't that good either.

Daniela's not on the entry list for Charleston or Katowice at the moment although she might get a wild card.

A good win in doubles against decent opponents as we all know how good Halep is and Dulgheru's been tough for Daniela in the past. One good thing is that Daniela's got a win here because it would be terrible to go out in the first round in both singles and doubles. Makarova & Vesnina are next and they're one of the top teams and much tougher opponents so it will be a good gauge of Daniela & Karin's level as a team. They'll be the underdogs but it's a good opportunity so why not?
