At least it's immediately following another women's match, and not a men's match where one guy blows a two set to none lead like the past two years.

It's better that Daniela's after a women's match because she'll have a rough idea how long it'll last as a long women's match will take roughly the same time as a straight sets men's match. Quite a few times in recent slams, Daniela's been scheduled after a men's match where somebody's two sets up and the other guy fights back and it goes to 5 sets and that won't be the case this time. It'll just be like the tour.

Court 8 is a small outside court and it isn't televised so it's not ideal for Daniela but she should still be too good for Sanchez. First set's going to be crucial as in her recent poor streak in slams, Daniela's always lost the first set so if she gets the first set then that would put her in a strong position in the match and give her confidence and momentum.

Crucial break back by Daniela especially as she was 30-0 down and saved a GP.

Long game with Daniela saving 4 BPs before holding on her 2nd GP. Hopefully this gives Daniela momentum.

4-1, Daniela broke Sanchez then held to 15.

5-2, Another tough service game for Daniela having to save a BP but wins it on her 2nd GP.

5-5, Sanchez on a roll, Daniela had 2 set points at 5-4, 15-40 but couldn't convert. Next service game is crucial.

6-5, crucial hold to 15 by Daniela.

7-5, Daniela break to 30 on her 2nd BP. Hopefully being up a set will relax her and give her momentum for the 2nd set. I think this is the first time Daniela's won the first set in a slam since Wimbledon 2011 against Erakovic.

1-0, a good hold to start the second set for Daniela, saving another BP. She has to start making some inroads into Sanchez's 1st serve or hope that Sanchez doesn't get 1st serves in. Sanchez is getting 54% winning 73% but only 30% on second serve.

2-0, Daniela breaks on her 5th BP. Crucial to break to keep her momentum.

2-1, would have been great to hold as it would have put Daniela in complete control.

3-1, Daniela breaks to 15.

4-1, Daniela holds to 15. The first serve is working well this set, 76% in, 69% won.

5-1, Daniela break to 15 for the double break.

5-2, Daniela had 2 MPs at 40-15 but Sanchez won the next 4 points.

6-2, Daniela breaks to 15 for the match. :wav: :wav: :wav: :wav: :wav: :wav: :wav: :wav: :wav: :wav:

Serve it out Daniela!!!!!!!!!

This is getting edgy :o

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who'd have thought that the US Open would be Daniela's best Grand Slam in 2013

But we'll take it!

Meanwhile potential 3rd round seed Petrova lost to Glusko, but of course Stosur will most probably be Daniela's 2nd round opponent but anything is possible.

Meanwhile I'm going to enjoy this win!

Oh, Yeah! OK, guys, on 3…1,2,3 Exhale!! I can hear the sighs of relief all over the world. Begone, 1st round bugaboo! Dani put us through the wringer for a straight set match, but I will gladly take it. :D

I've got to say that this is a huge relief but Daniela got the job done and won her first match in a slam since the 2012 Australian Open. There were a few times that were pretty tense especially in the first set when Sanchez broke Daniela to love and was 30-0 up on her serve before Daniela broke. It was a bit tense when Sanchez came back to 5-5 but Daniela put in a good service game and then broke Sanchez to win the set. The start of the second was pretty crucial as Daniela had to save a BP in the first game and then had a monster game before she broke on her 5th BP.

The quibbles are that she didn't serve out when she served for both sets and the points won on 2nd serve was low but overall it was a good solid win and Daniela generally won the crucial points. Well done Daniela.

Thought it was odd not to see Daniela in the mixed...ah well might be a blessing in disguise, not sure why there was a mix-up..

So relieved.

Totally. I have not been so nervous for Dani in ages, even more so than for some of her finals. In the middle of the match I needed to sign some documents, and my hands were shaking and I could barely write my name. Honest! This truly is nearly as much relief as it is joy.
Now, should any of my fellow New Yorkers have no plans for tomorrow afternoon and would like to see a #1 bite the dust, I know where they should head. It doesn't matter if the match is played at Ashe, Louis Armstrong, Court 17 or the dark side of the moon, Daniela and Martina are bringing the paisans down! I just sense it, guys!

Daniela will next play 17 year old Victoria Duval. Daniela's draw has really opened up considering Petrova and now Stosur have lost.

Duval just beat Stosur 57 64 64 in what was an amazing match.

Hopefully the organisers will put this on a streamed court.

Daniela has a great chance to make 4th round here but of course there have been so many times when the draw has been wide open and Daniela has lost and missed the opportunity.

First Daniela has to play doubles and then take out Duval on Thursday.

Post subject:  Re: US Open, Flushing Meadows

Victoria Duval just upset Stosur in three sets so she's next for Daniela. Stosur was really tense and made a lot of errors but Duval played very well, she hardly made any errors in the last two sets, got a lot of balls back and also hit some very nice shots so she could be tough. At the same time her serve was fairly slow and she hit quite a lot of doubles faults and no aces although she did put in good serves on the BPs.
