With this as the women's semifinalists, Daniela can still do this someday soon...maybe New York! :) Not just an encouraging post on FB, it was one of her best ever. The most encouraging parts were that she's taking a good break, and for me of course, her coming to America. As of yesterday, Dani is not yet confirmed for Carlsbad, but my eyes are open and I'm hopin'!

This first semi final between Bartoli and Flipkens is totally pathetic so far. Tennis is all about the draw..Daniela and Klaras match was far superior than these two.. Zakapolova was just another tough first rounder..

Radwanska vs lisicki is a good match. But the more I watch other players the more I love Daniela and her game. It really is beautiful watching Daniela play.

No wonder Sabine and Daniela are such good friends. They specialize in giving their fans heart attacks.

WOOF! That was some match between Lisicki & Radwanska. I'm happy that Lisicki won because I quite like her but I'd have been happy if Radwanska won. They're both friends of Daniela.

Like you said eddy, the Bartoli - Flipkens semi is because of the draw and all the upsets and injuries early on opening up the draw. Lisicki's beaten both of last years finalists plus the 2011 US Open winner here while the best player Bartoli beat was Sloane Stephens and Flipkens didn't play anyone in the top 50 until the quarter-final and a huge reason she won that was because Kvitova was sick. At the same time you can only beat your next opponent. Daniela's something like 5-1 against Bartoli.

What I like about this final is that we had for the umpteenth time the media and other wise individuals declaring that it's Serena and the 1000 dwarfs and the rest of the girls are gutless and Serena wins every major the moment she steps off the plane. It seems like every time that happens, someone like Sabine (or Dani 2006 AO) steps up and defends the honor of all the other players and the tour in general. I would enjoy seeing Sabine finish the job and bag her first major.

Bartoli winning Wimbledon shows that Daniela can win a slam. End of.

The final was so anticlimatic as Sabine was overcome by nerves and played nothing like as well as she did earlier in the tournament. It was difficult to watch at times as she looked like she was on the verge of emotional meltdown and it was sad, I felt so sorry for her. She did fight back a bit in the second set and gave a bit of respectability to the score and recovered a bit of pride. Bartoli did play well and she was focused and took advantage of her opportunities in the match.

Sabine Lisicki beat the no. 1 & no. 4 plus two former slam winners while Bartoli was seeded 15 and didn't play anyone seeded higher than her all tournament. Has anyone ever had an easier draw to win a slam?

Marion fully deserves it, though. Besides, she has beaten Serena and Henin before here, and had a final already. It's not her fault Sabine became an emotional mess, she played as good as she needed to.

The only other player to win a Grand Slam without beating a top 15 seed (I know, seeds can be very deceptive of a player's ability) was Sue Barker in the 1976 French Open. Barker was a similar player to Bartoli, consistently a good player, never a great player who won one Grand Slam.

For years I thought that ESPN had completely cornered the market on wiseass know-nothing commentators. Refreshing to hear that this BBC guy with the "not a looker" take on Bartoli is just as ignorant. Don't worry if you get fired, fella. There's plenty of opportunities here in America for you as a sports talk show host!
