DANIELA GOT THE BUG!

Daniela Hantuchová
Hi guys, I'm just recovering from the terrible virus from Indian Wells, which knocked me down for a few days... I hope it stops spreading because it's very nasty and having to play a tournament in these circumstances isn't much fun... :(

Geez........just about everything that could have gone wrong for Daniela in Indian Wells did go wrong.

Luckily she has got a week to recover.

Thank you, Daniela and Eddy, for the breaking news. This is a true relief to me, and it could be a major blessing in disguise. Now, certainly I don't like Dani being ill for even one second. But, first, there are now logical explanations for her 2 "bad" losses to Halep and last week. Travel weary in Doha, sick as a puppy at Indian Wells. And, she still made those matches Danielathons and almost won both. (So admireable.) Next, and much more important, it sounds like this virus knocked her off of her feet for a few days, forcing some much needed rest for all that ails her physically. In Miami, while again her opening match will be only her second in 4 weeks, Dani should be pretty fit and ready to go. If she can overcome rust and the never before encountered, and monstrous, obstacle of me being in the audience  a good run just might occur. Never give up on the good times! Let's Go, Daniela!

I'm not glad she was ill, but I'm glad it isn't the injury coming back to hamper her.

Get the rest, danka!

She probably wasn't ill for the match-no way can you play in blazing heat for 3 hours with your guts convulsing. The virus has a shelf-life of 24-48 hours according to the reports,so it looks like Daniela was unfortunate enough to catch the virus after her loss. The darned thing is still contagious-Mike Bryan got it just today.

One other thing...famous last words: "I'm tired of obsessing over rankings, points..." That resolution of mine lasted all of 4 days. So now, correct me if I'm wrong, but should Sharapova beat Kirilenko (it is as revolting to have to root for Sharapova in 2 straight matches as it would be to cheer for the New York Yankees; I'm gritting my teeth and doing it anyway), will that move Daniela to #19? I'm pretty sure that Peng and Anastasia have fallen behind her, and I believe that Kirilenko is the only one left that can overtake her this week.

That's such a shame for Daniela, I hope that she gets well soon.

And now of course Kirilenko is beating Sharapova to go ahead of Daniela in the rankings....:(

I've never seen her play this well.................

OMG KIRILENKO just purposefully whacked the racket 4 times on the ground as Sharapova was about to hit a winner.

I've never seen such intentional cheating! Well done umpire for giving point to Sharapova...

If it involves Daniela in any way, shape or form, it's gotta last over 3 hours!
Kirilenko's gamemenship attempts didn't work against Dani in Thailand, and they didn't work today. No wonder she hasn't won in 4 years.
Hey, Nineteen! ;)

Daniela will be no.19 next week, her highest ranking since December 2008!

Silver lining after a horrid week..

Kirilenko's always been a cheating bitch, so it's absolutely no surprise that she cheated here, lots and lots of times. You just knew that she'd take a medical timeout in the second set as soon as Shazza had momentum and there was the disappearing act between the second and third set, going way over the time limit between points, trying to sneak in an unauthorised coaching visit and what the hell was that bashing the court with the racket bullshit. Pretty much any other player would take at least a couple of tournaments to fit in all that crap, but Kirilenko managed that all in one match, impressive dedication to the arts of gamemanship and cheating and she still lost.

I've got to admit to a considerable softening of what was a staunchly hardline anti-Shazza on my part, now I quite like her  2005 me reacts. There are always a few players at any one time that I just can't stand or who at least get on my tits but there are quite a few players players that I previously couldn't stand that I've warmed to, so chances are that some of the ones that get on my tits at the moment will be receiving a bit more love from me in future.

Ending on a good note, Daniela's back in the top 20 :D

In early February of last year, prior to the 1st Pattaya City win, Daniela was #32. In 13 months, she has now risen 13 spots. What might we be celebrating in October 2013 :?: :!:

The racket-banging by Kirilenko was so blatant it was ridiculous. And then she had the effrontery to bitch to the umpire about the decision! So glad she lost.
