Great, loopy return on match point. Oprandi can't handle that type of ball from Daniela. First set 7-5, with Dani to serve first in second.

Smart point Daniela. I play those shots in my matches if my opponents are playing well against my flat shots on crucial points, best shot! :D 7-5 now win this for good ranking points.

Yes I like Mattek Sands myself, I watched it, she is really good, has a lot of talent. Love her personality. :D

Comfortable in the end. Oprandi's failure to break at the start of the second set really knocked the stuffing out of her.

Incredibly fun match to watch, and apart from the outbreak of headcasery at the end of the first,Daniela played really well-still a little bit concerned about her movement though. Have there ever been more dropshots hit in 2 sets of tennis?

easy march-through after the medical time out :)
Daniela stayed focused and ruthless, and didn't give Oprandi any chance to stay in the match.
7-5 6-1

Schiavone was in imperious form today, hope daniela gets to have a go at her. Good luck dani against oprandi.

Huge pressure for FS to perform well in front of her own fans. No pressure on Danka.

Radwanska, Petkovic, and the in-form Mattek-Sands have all lost today, and the bottom-half of the draw is certainly opening up. That being said Daniela's quarter is still pretty tough, with both of last year's RG finalists in her section.

Hopefully Schiavone will be tight tomorrow playing in front of a home crowd, and a crowd that expects alot from her given her win at RG last year. On the other hand, she could play awesome and out-class Daniela on the clay...

Bottom-half R16:

Vesnina v Arn
Gajdosova v Li [4]
Stosur [6] v Hercog
Hantuchova v Schiavone [2]

For me there are two results today that in part illustrate the very different conditions between Madrid and Rome, with the boxed-in Madrid courts playing more like in-door courts.

- Last week shot-making Safarova beat Jankovic in Madrid in three tight sets, today in Rome she was heavily beaten by the Serb.

- Last week in Madrid big-hitting Kleybanova thrashed Peer, today in Rome Peer beat Kleybanova in straight-sets.

Good win by Daniela. She came through a tough first set and once she held Oprandi's resistance at the start of the second, she came through the match fairly comfortably. This is Daniela's best run here since she got to the semi-final in 2007 and she's got a nice boost of points and quite a few of the players around her have lost already or will drop points so this really boosts her chances of getting seeded for Roland Garros.

It's a shame that Daniela and Agnieszka lost in the doubles but Peschke and Srebotnik are a good team.

"It was a typical clay duel. SUPERKOV played very uncomfortable, constantly tried to stopbaly. I'm against it hard to seek the right rhythm, but I believed that even if I lost the opening set, eventually it can kill through kondičku. I did not so good performance as in the opening round against Pironkova, where I played great, but the important thing is that I won. sometimes be a little sweat. To the elite sixteen of my favorite tournaments in Rome will certainly very much appreciate," said Hantuchova, who is already looking forward for Thursday's match against Schiavone. "Last year I was very disappointed when I lost to Schiavone in just the 1st round, Francesca a few weeks later after surprise win the title at Roland Garros. Thursday's match will be a challenge for me and very good test before Paris. Francesca will have the audience on his side. It is important to me to be patient and to have stayed on the court. I can not afford to impose a rival me your style of play." @ google translation.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.

If anyone can record the match or make a highlights video it would be greatly appreciated! I'm at work:-(

Also did anyone watch mattek-sands beat pennetta yesterday? Bethanie was awesome. She was dropshotting and hitting huge winners! Also she wore red face paint under her eyes-quite entertaining! She's now in my top 5 favourite players.

Anyway go for it today daniela. Lots of points if she wins today.

I just asked my girlfriend at home to record it :)

I didn't watch Mattek-Sands play yesterday, but the match against Schiavone in Madrid.
She looks like a native american on the warpath :?

Bethanie Mattek-Sands is a friend of the forum.

Daniela Hantuchova is right about everything.
