Redfoo to make bid for U.S. Open

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Rapper Redfoo of LMFAO and "Heroes" actor Sendhil Ramamurthy have entered the U.S. Open national playoffs in bids to earn berths in the final Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year.

Redfoo is entered in the USTA Northern California Sectional qualifying tournament June 18-23 in Salinas, Calif.

He will play under his real name Stefan Gordy in singles, and mixed doubles with 17-year-old Ayaka Okuno, whom he is currently coaching.

The 37-year-old rapper, dancer and DJ, whose father, Berry Gordy, founded the Motown record label, played tennis as a junior and has attended some of the Grand Slam tournaments.

He was at this week's Indian Wells, Calif., tournament to support friend Victoria Azarenka, the world's No. 2 player.

"It's always been a dream of mine to play professional tennis," Redfoo said.

Ramamurthy has entered singles and mixed doubles in the June 9-15 USTA Eastern Sectional qualifying tournament at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center, where the U.S. Open will be held starting in late August.

The 38-year-old actor was a competitive junior player in Texas who considered turning pro.

The winners from each sectional qualifying tournament will advance to the national playoffs, and those winners will earn a wild card into the U.S. Open qualifying tournament.

The mixed doubles champions receive a wild card into the main draw of the U.S. Open.

Redfoo's 37!!! I didn't think he was that old, maybe it's just me but so many things about that guy scream midlife crisis. That or he's a trustfund manchild.

It's even sadder when you realize his dad is the legendary Berry Gordy, who founded Motown records.

WOOF! Two really good semi-finals. The match between Djokovic and Del Potro was quality stuff. Del Potro played really well but a decisive moment was when he had the entire court to put that smash into in the third set tiebreak but he hit it right to Djokovic who ended up winning the point and that gave him control of the tiebreak and he went 2-1 up. Although Del Potro won the fourth set and played some amazing tennis to save the match points, Djokovic had more endurance in the final set.

Janowicz is a nutter, Murray isn't, that's a big reason why Murray won. Probably the crucial point in the match was the net cord that Murray got to give him the break back point at 2-4 in the third. Without that Janowicz would probably have held and been in a strong position to win the set and be in control of the match but Murray got the break and rode the momentum to the final. Wasn't even interrupted by the roof getting closed. Quite an amicable handshake at the end considering what had gone on in the match and a contrast to the losing Pole from yesterday. The ATP is a lot more gracious and magnanimous than the WTA.

Another grand slam final grindathon between Djokovic and Murray.

Del Potro's forehand has to be the scariest shot I've ever seen. One whistled by Djokovic at 115 m/ph-most people can't serve the ball at that speed.

The Bryan brothers won the doubles so they've got the Golden Slam and are the first team in the Open era to do so.

One of them should play mixed doubles with Daniela.

Got to be Sir Andrew Murray.

I suppose that mods will be wearing Andy Murray polo shirts in 2080.
